My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

Okay.....
So, I cracked open the diff cover.
Apparently, I have a gawd awful set of 3.08's.... :doah:
Annnnnnnd, it's an open diff.

So.... Weld the diff for the time being? :dunno:

And, what should I use, ultimately?
Not that it matters much, but it will have 3.73's in the end. :D
Eaton Posi?
Detroit?

What's the good word?

I had a Detroit No-spin in the K5;
So, I'm well acquainted with the actions of a locker, in a Large Rig.
Not so acquainted with how small tires/suspension deal... :dunno:

Other than your fixation on burnout, do you really anticipate that much need for extra traction in a 100% street truck? :dunno: Open diff might work just fine. (My sixpack is open, for instance, but then I'll do anything to reduce that truck's turning radius :D )

You do not want 373.
That thing ran like a raped ape with a 350.
Your BBC with the th400 could use all the help it can get.
Keep the 308.
Eventually if you can get 273 it will be better.
Remember you have 28" tires not 33"

Detroit for sure. Or atleast a Trutrack. Anyways, I wouldnt go so deep with gears, like was mentioned, you will be at 5k rpms at 70mph. No good.

My 73 short bed has a mild 454/th350 (until i build my th400) and a 12 bolt with trutrac 3.73s. You want to talk about a raped ape, it does 65-70 on the hwy no problem, and will pitch sideways and lay stripes whenever you feel necessary.

Im running 275/60/15s, I think they are 28" tall, and Im right at 3500 RPM at 65 MPH. Its not that bad for what it is.

Unnecessarily beefy, Poly Motor Mounts.... From Kert. :D

MSD-6AL.
MSD Rev Limiter.
SurePower Dual Battery Isolater. - Cuz asking for a jump is LAME.

3500 in a BB is a tad high, not to mention gas mileage will go out the window. I would shoot for more like 2200 or so at your normal cruising speed. Whatever that may be.

I would agree if it were a commuter but my daily drive is 7 miles to work on back roads at no more then 50 mph and gas mileage was already out the window once the BB went in backed by a 3 speed. One legged BB trucks ain't no fun to drive nun, haha.

?...and gas mileage was already out the window once the BB went in backed by a 3 speed.

Exactly....

Now people, Shut up about "gas mileage". :thumb:
BBC, and "MPG's" are NOT synonymous.

There'd be an LS motor in here, if I cared about gas mileage.

I get the rpm, at highway speeds, thing.
I really do.

But I need a locker, and steeper gears.

my blue Chevelle was a 500 hp 402, T400 and 4:10 12 bolt, it got 6, maybe 7 mpg...

snot nasty light to light tho! :haha:

Exactly....

The Beast got 6-8mpg, with TBI/Chip.
The Tundra gets 12mpg, no matter what...
Fuel 'economy' isn't a big concern of mine... :haha:

well, something wasn't right there... no reason that shouldn't have been getting 10 minimum.. heck, I got 15 easy on my tbi rig... carb'd BB, sure single digits are understandable.. EFI SB? no way...

I ran 3.73's, eaton posi, 383/t350 in my Beaumont. With a 25" tall tire it revved bout 3500 doing 60. Went to a 27", it dropped to about 3200. With a bigger tire, like a 275/60/15(28" tall) you would prob be pretty happy with a 3.73's.

I ran a lock right in it, blew it up. Have since gone to an Eaton, its been holding together for 2000 miles of fairly hard abuse.

Although the roughness of a locker on the street is kewl too :haha:

I was feeding it way too much gas.
Way too much.

Did you adjust the odometer for your tire size? I don't think it will take too tall of gear to get them rear wheels to spin with just a pickup box back there. You may have to add weight if you want black marks, and I can't wait. It really is a sharp truck.

I don't think the odometer has an adjustment.
I'll deal with all that later. :dunno:

And, thanks.. :D
I'm trying to keep it classy.
