My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

I did that.

With the last starter it spun a bit faster.
This new starter spins the motor over a lot faster.
Plugs or not.

I think I just flooded it.
Or, possibly have another issue.
Ignition/timing related.

I get why people pay mechanics...
If I had no mechanical knowledge, I'd hand this sh*t over, too! :haha:

I'm not sure I understand this reply, it is spinning like it should now but you flooded it so it wouldn't start?

If you flood it hold the pedal to the floor and crank it over for a while to blow out the excess fuel.

Voltage Drop Test the whole starting system, before you do anything.
Each individual circuit.

Its a MUST before ANY electrical diagnoses.
You cant even get accurate DVM readings, if you have a voltage drop at a ground.
Bad ground = bad readings.

I'll try that. Thanks

I believe so... I pulled the plugs and it WREAKED of fuel.

Its been airing out for 48hrs, now.
So, I'm gonna pop the Shift Linkage off and give it a couple cranks.
Insuring it IS fully in 'Park'. :waytogo:

the truck would want to roll when you turn it over if it was in gear..

oh wait, is there a driveshaft in this thing yet? :haha:

Jesus 48hrs with plugs pulled? Ive never had something flood beyond airing out for 20 or 30mins...

I had other stuff to do.... :dunno::thumb:

At any rate, sumbeach still wont fire.
Theres something wrong here.

Its like theres no spark.
But, theres damn sure spark.
Just spins like the MSD is grounded, but I tested the box and all connections.
All checks out.

He has the wheels chalked

After the this thread, I think that would make them white. (As opposed to "chocked", which keeps them from rolling. Or so I hear, as I rolled my truck into the shed once... :doah: )

Stooopid question ... you actually checked at the plug for spark? Either pull a plug and look for the blue fire to the frame, or with a neon bulb inline with the wire ...

... or something?

I did the "shove a screwdriver in the #1 plug boot, and lean on valve cover" test.
My spark was yellowish... Like its weak.

My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Ugh...]

I bet it's the MSD box even though no one wants to say it. It seems like there's all kinds of problems with them lately.

Nope.
I checked EVERYTHING for the MSD.
Im thinking the distributor/coil, atm.

People give MSD box's ****, because they dont set them up right.
Yes, it is another potential failure point.
It also fires the engine harder on cold starts, burns more fuel, and gives me a rev limiter.
I love CD Ignitions.

It certainly is a rev limiter at the moment. ;) sorry, I couldn't resist...

I guess you can try a spare coil or distributor easy enough.

this is why I asked you what color the spark was....

coils sh*ttin the bed will do that... spark, but not a crackle blue light my fire kinda spark...

it's a less common failure than them just not working all of a sudden, but it happens... that was how the MSD coil in Mutt went out last yr...

and weak coil might fire out in the air . but try making a spark under pressure with fuel in the air . . . a lot harder .

try a known good coil and let us know .

Sorry but they are crap. I got 2 bad MSD boxes bad out box. That's enough for me to not trust them enough to leave me stranded.
