***My 74 k5 Build Thread***Took her out wheelin today.

haha, ill see what i can do.

on your rear disks, did you use the 3/4 ton front or the caddy calipers?
whos brackets did you use? i think thats my next project.

I went to ebay and typed in 14 bolt disc brake conversion. Got a kit with everything for 350. If you need it, i can look it up and link it to ya, but I think you could find it.

Well I got the ORD steering box brace in, and half of the crossover steering done:-/ I am missing the nut that goes on the bottom of the sector shaft on the steering box... So that is causing a problem. And now I see that I forgot to order my New brake lines, guess I will be calling ORD first thing in the morning...

Bumper and winch in!

Well since I am waiting on my new brake lines to show up, I decided to hook up the new bumper and 8k lb warn winch, all of which i got off of craigslist for $550 with a whopping 3 pulls on the winch! Tell me what you think, I am not a big fan of the diamond plate... Thinking about painting it black. Any suggestions?

Okay, big work started yesterday. Working on taking the NP203 out right now, hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow I will have the eng/trans/xfer out, and have the engine compartment gutted. Wish me luck!

Everything is out...

Okkkkay, luckily there were no birthday's or work this weekend so I got to get some work done on the Blazer. My brother came up from Portland and really helped me out quite a bit, I forgot how much faster things go when you have two people working!! Here are some pics, tomorrow we plan to have the new drive train installed, and possibly get it running by the end of the night. However I think we all know how that usually goes:-)

New drivetrain in!

OOOOKay, got the sm465, ranger O/D, and 396 BB all bolted together and set into the engine mounts! Now I am just hooking up the little stuff. (cherry picker is on there to support the weight of the rear because we have not put the rear cross member on yet). Also, I wanted to note how much easier it is to get this stuff done with a helper. My little brother came up from portland for the weekend, and we have been getting stuff nocked out, couldnt have done it this quickly without him. He will be getting my old 84 blazer next month, and all my old parts:-)

You think the gear splitter can handle the 396? Their site says it's good to 420ft./lbs....

Yep, it will be fine. That's what it is guaranteed to handle, but it can actually take quite a bit more before blowing up:-) Plus I have a very light foot.

The bumper looks good but it might be better black, i got this rustoleum hammerhead finish black that is real tough and durable that worked good on my warn. Even painted it with a brush and with the rough look it has( a lil like powder coat) you cant even tell...

Yeppers, I am actually going to use the last of my por-15 to paint it up. After I get everything else done:-)

I grew up on Mt. Hood, however I am in the Army these days, stationed up at For Lewis in Washington.

I know I have not updated in a while, but so far I have gotten the 1" ORD body lift, and poly bushings installed, drivetrain is in, fired up the engine today for the first time since it has been in the truck. Two issues with that, the engine ran really good, fired right up, timing was right on. However something is off with the wiring harness, the wires running out of the firewall over to the starter side of the engine started smoking so I shut it off and disconnected the battery. Think I am just going to order a new wiring harness, this thing is shot... Secondly.... I had some smoke coming out of the bellhousing. I do not know exactly what it was, it was fairly light colored, did not really smell... However I have not hooked up the plunger that pushes on the fork yet, so I could not see if it would shift properly or not. The clutch was taken out of another truck, it has minimal miles on it. I am hoping there was just some oil in there, or its burning something off.... Any suggestions or ideas as to what it could be?

Ooookay, I got the engine running good, wiring harness figured out, and the trans is shifting great! Should have my new drivelines in next weekend, and the brakes done, then it is time to hit the trails! Wish me luck!

Hey I was trying to find something on that Ranger kit, do you have a link for it? Ever think about trying to do your own wiring with out FI it isn't that hard to do, again there is so much information on this site you can sort it out for yourself. On a different note are there any active duty black hawks at Lewis I am looking for my next duty station.

awsome build. subscribed!

btw that has to be the best rattle can paint job i've seen in a while
