***My 74 k5 Build Thread***Took her out wheelin today.

Oh yeah, someone was saying that I was "going" to have death wobble. Got her out on the highway, nothing. Rides smooth as can be. so :-P to all of you nay sayers.

i have a 74 also i was thinking about the same steering swap... how much was the shaft ? could you maby email a few picts thanks.... i am in oregon too whare do you go wheeling"? thanks...

Well Oregon is my home, i grew up on Mt. Hood. However I am stationed at Fort Lewis up in washington right now. Also I wanted to make sure that I didnt confuse anyone by posting two things at the same time, the borgeson shaft did not fix any death wobble, there just never was any:-) I ordered the shaft because the stock one just didnt look up to the job, and the steering was sloppy thanks to the worn out rag joint. The shaft itself was 280ish shipped. And I have not installed it yet, but when I do I will get some more pics.

Propane injected!

Well I had enough of my propane parts to set it up with one impco 425, instead of the dual that I was planning on doing. I no longer have any plans of running dual 425's. It runs like a beast! This is the best running I have ever had this blazer. Super stoked about propane! It will not stall! I started in third and dumped the clutch... Sure enough, it kept running. Also I am idling right at 375rpm. Its awesome. Anywho, here are the pictures I have been promising! I painted up the new borgeson steering shaft, I will install it tomorrow. As well as clean up everything else on the truck.

Cool, except for the availability of fueling stations propane seems like the hot ticket for a budget friendly injection setup...

Once you get some time on the setup let us know what kind of mpg (well I guess it's still measured in mpg.... or is propane measured in volume... heck maybe even in pounds as a weight... I'm not sure :dunno:) basically what kind of range are ya' knocking down. :)

I will keep you guys updated. From what I have heard, when replacing a carburetor you can expect slightly less, or the same mpg. If it was a crappy carb, not properly tuned, then you may gain mpg.

Right on...

I installed mine a few weeks ago and only took one little bump of the starter and it was running... Crazy responsive... And X2, my Blazer has never ran this good on gas...

I turned the idle way down as well...

do you ever run with the top on? If so I think I'd be sketched out by the propane tank in the cab incase of fumes or something.

Well it may be hard to see, but the top is on. Its a soft top, I do not even have my hard top anymore. And I would rather have the fumes inside the cab where I can smell them, and put a stop to them. Not to mention propane is non-toxic and has a proven track record of being 4 times safer than any other fuel. A few people have commented on the safety of it, but so far it has only been people who know nothing about propane.

Also did I mention that i laid a strip of rubber with a locked rear end and 38"s? I love having a big block:-) ..... just need a traction bar now..

Your heater hose that goes to the mixer needs to be fixed its to high going to have a permanant air bubble, should be lower then the radiator cap.

Not sure if it matters but every other propane system that I have seen including mine have the mixer mounted to the body not the motor, but like I said not sure if it makes a difference.

Nice build...where did you find the Dana 60? I sure would like to get a line on a surplused military 60 for my rig...seems like the ones I find on CL are way too expensive to end up rebuilding...any ideas?

Yep I know about the hose, as i said in a previous post it was just to see if everything worked. I am cleaning everything up today. The truck I got this off of had the mixer mounted to the engine with a bracket that I took as well. Seems to work just fine. The dana 60 came out of someones yard, it looked like a solid chunk of rust, but the gears were good. Took me about a day to rebuild it and get it cleaned up, cost me $900.

Dustin,

I live in Auburn near Green River Community College and Pacific Raceway. I know there are a few K-5's arround here...just don't know any of them personally. I'm tired of paying big shop prices at 4X4 Shops arround here only to get crappy service and stupid prices. I'm looking for a Dana 60 with 4.56's.
