My 86 K5 build

That's a cool place. We were there in 2009 for one of the XRRA races. I'm going to have to look through this thread! Stuffing 44s is impressive!

Dude, I haven't been on the site in quite some time and wow. You've made A LOT of progress and bravo. Looking really good!

Bought a bunch of tubing and a bender for the cage and just got tied up with work and family pretty much all year. Hope to get around to finishing the cage and bumpers in 2017.

I decided it was time to start working on the gearing in my blazer. It hasn't been ideal ever sense I threw the 44's on, but it's been fine enough and has got the job done, but I decided to dive into a project on the blazer I've wanted to do for a while.

I decided to go with Northwest Fab's new Titan black box/NP205 combo. I decided on this route for a couple reasons, but the main one is the length. Even looking at the Magnum box from ORD, the Titan box gets me the closest overall length of the case as my current setup with my SYE 241, which means I will have to change the least amount of things by going with the Titan box over the Magnum (which saves me $ in the long run). I also looked at possibly getting an Atlas II in this thing, but in the end I like the fact that I will have a true 4 speed for the same price (if not cheaper) than an Atlas. But going this route I should be able to keep my crossmember/skidplate that I have a lot of time into as well.

So I picked up a 27 spline fig 8 NP205 because it was cheap. I will have to bore out the case to accept the larger bearing that the Titan box comes with (same size as a 32 spline input):

Completely tore it down to get ready to have the case bored:

Bearings and everything looked real good, which is nice

So, I have picked up a few things already to get this thing into my blazer. I picked up a buggy style cable triple sticks from JB Fab. I really like JB Fab's quality, their customer service is fantastic, and the buggy style setup is the best fit for my setup so I can just bolt it to my platform I already have in my blazer (once again, having to modify the least amount of things), and I picked up some new modified shift rails for the NP205 from his as well:

And I picked up a 32 spline front upgrade for my NP205, flanges front/rear, and a seal/gasket kit from ORD. I went back and forth on this, but decided that I needed to get a flange on the front of my NP205 anyways so my current front driveshaft will work, and since my case has the 10 spline front, it just made sense to upgrade it all at the same time, even if it was more money of the bat, should be worth it in the end:

So, I have already put my order into NWF for their Titan black box...I guess the lead time is pretty high right now cause he is out of the large mainshafts, but he is going to build the box and ship that in a few weeks, and then once he gets the mainshafts in he will ship that later. Luckily, I'm not in any hurry to get everything done since my truck is still running and fine with the SYE 241 in it, so I wasn't worried at all.
So the to-do lists is get the case bored, clean/paint the case, and rebuild the case up and ready to install into the truck...then see what little things I might have to adjust to get it done...hopefully in a few months it will be in the truck and rocking

I assume you still need to run the figure 8 adapter between the 205 and the Titan?

Nope, the titan box is built that you can run either a 6 bolt round OR a fig 8 case. The way Kris explained it to me was if you have a 6 bolt round pattern, than you just don't use the 3 bolts on the bottom. He decided it wasn't worth designing two cases and just designed one that will work with both. So if you look on his website at this thing (here: http://www.northwestfab.com/BlackBox-i-NP205-Titan-Series_p_2402.html) it shows how its intergraded...keeping the length so short compared to everyone else, and making it the most compact out there...which is what I cared about

Ah ok. Make sure you mock it up with the JB fab hardware on the rails, for whatever reason they made their adapter clearance around the shift rail pretty tight so I had to open it up.

Yeah, I'm planning on putting everything together off the truck first (attach shifters, fully bolted together) before I install in the truck, just so I know everything goes in easy before I'm laying under the truck

The doubler will be a nice addition.

I have loved my SYE 241, but with tires in the 42-44" range, I needed to make the change. I will keep my SYE 241 with it's own cable shifter around and probably put it in something else down the road. But I am excited to have a true 4 speed with 1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1, and 5.33:1 options without fear of running the front case in low and the 205 in high

So, my bro was in town this weekend and we decided to adjust the boggers a little bit :D

We went to HF and bought some oscillating tools to help out

We took off the little side lugs just below the smaller lugs

And this is a comparison between a comp cut bogger and a normal bogger:

And after 3 days of work, we got all 4 done. Crazy amount of rubber got cut off these things, haha

All done!

And here is a short vid we did of cutting the lugs off:

We did this because I have some new 42" pitbull rockers coming soon that I got on the Trump Day deal, and I'm going to run those full time on my rig...so my bro and I decided to take these boggers and comp cut them for mud/contests whenever we want. Since we both have recentered h1's, we both can throw these tires on whenever we want

How did it feel at first, cutting into pretty new tires?

Before the first cut I had the initial thought of, "Should we really do this?" Then we just said F it and started hacking away :D

If this was my only set of tires, probably wouldn't have done it since I don't do a crazy amount of mud stuff...but the fact I know I have 42" rockers on the way that will be my main tire, I wasn't very worried about it

I looked back to see what length shock you went with but seemed to have missed it... Do you mind sharing the length?

Sure thing. Front and rear are both bilstein 5125's...rears are 12" travel shocks (in stock location), fronts are 14" travel shocks with modified ford shock towers

Well, my NWF Titan Blackbox finally came in the mail. Still missing from all this is the massive 34 spline main-shaft as they are on backorder on that right now. So maybe in a few weeks that will show up on the mail. Luckily they did provide me with the new input bearing for the NP205, so I can work on getting the case bored to accept that (mine is a 27 spline input version) and then I can at least put together the front output with the new 32 spline ORD version...then it's just wait until the main-shaft comes in so I can put together the rest.

While inspecting this...this thing is truly a work of art...bad a$$ product for sure!!
