My 86 K5 build

Haha. yes that is who I am talking about. I don't know for sure if the TBI was on there but I did get it from him. He may have got it from the guy when he bought the K5

Well that would make me feel better than him taking it off and selling it, then putting an eldebrock performer on there :mad1:. Hope that TBI is working out for ya. One of these days I need fuel injection

86 model was the last year for carb. It was 87 when gm went to tbi.

Yea, I know. That's why I was a little surprised to hear that he had some TBI equipment that he sold off. But it would make sense if the guy before him had it to try to swap but never did. My bro and I have been talking, and I have a wild hair to maybe put a vortec in this thing . Who knows what will happen, but that would be sick! If I remember right, didn't you put a vortec in yours Teck?

Can anyone tell me where the best place to purchase the ford shock towers that everyone so commonly uses? Or does anyone on here have some that they want to sell me?

Thanks for the info. And thanks for the compliment too. I have been watching yours too. I love those years. Keep it up :waytogo:

Great, thanks a lot man! Are they the 1980 F250 towers that you got too? And is that $29.85 for both of them out the door?

Yea that was for the both of them.. however I just ordered them last week so do not have them in my hands yet. Not sure about the year I think they used them from the mid 80's into the 90's.
I also live in Parker and just getting into the off roading, so if your looking for someone to wheel with or need some help give me a shout. I also like your front bumper and sliders :waytogo:

Spoiler alert.... Someone is going to be swapping in 52" springs up front..

You beat me to it :haha: Thanks again! I think they will work out perfect. I'm just hoping it warms up a little bit so I can get them in :thumb:. Pics will be coming soon hopefully

Update... I got some parts in. As already stated, I bought some 52's of Scott (mrk5). The bushings were pretty shot so I have some greasable poly bushings with some greasable bolts ordered from DIY4x. They have an extra set of spring clamps that go around the overloads for some reason, so I will remove those along with clean them up and paint em

Bought some 6'' shackles, UD Spring Plates, and some EZ inches from DIY4x. My plan is to set my springs up exactly how I want them so my shackle angle is right, and then move the axle forward an inch and a half with the EZ inches.

At the same time I bought some ford shock towers from ORD. I also needed some new u-bolts for this and found that ORD's dana 60 u-bolt kit was a little better of deal than anything else I could find. Plus, they come with studs instead of bolts for the casting side of the d60.

Hopefully it starts to warm up a little around here so I can get some motivation to get all this on. Hopefully some install pics soon. What do you guys think?

I think it is going to flex very nicely up front after you do that. Are you going to put some 0-rates on the rear axle as well? It's always nice to get a bunch of new parts :waytogo:. Can't wait till I do the same setup on my rig.

I am not totally sure if I will do the 0-rates on the rear too. My plan is to get the front suspension all finished up and then see how it sits with the rear. I am anticipating that I might want another inch or so in the rear after this, but I think I will just get a longer shackle for the rear to get that extra lift instead of 0-rates. I just don't think I am going to move the rear axle at all right now mainly because I have a brand new rear driveshaft and don't want to mess with that again, but we will see what I end up doing in the rear when it's all said and done. Have you made any of those cuts to your fenders yet??

So you're going to have to get different shocks when you do the Ford shock towers, correct? Which ones are you going to go with? No I haven't gotten around to messing with my trimming yet. Like you, it's been so damn cold here that I don't want to work on anything outside.

Your brother needs to join CK5 and make a build thread. :) His Rig is sweet.

Yeah, I will need to get new shocks. I think I am going with the Pro Comp ES3000's. From what I have read they are one of the best "bang for your buck" shocks. And I'm not going to spend a whole lot of money on shocks, it's not in my nature :D. My brother's have run these and they really like them, especially for the price.

I've told my brother to do it too. He hasen't taken a lot of pics of his build up, but he has some on his iphone of when we swapped the ton's in and when we put on a bunch of ORD parts. But maybe I can take some more pics of his at least and put it on my thread for ya!!

Man you are already making me feel like I'm slacking on my project.

I like all your tube work by the way. I have an old Harbor Freight bender stashed in the shop; it came with a parts truck my brother in law bought. You've inspired me to think about pulling it out and trying it out on a couple of ideas.

Thanks Scott. We were going for simple and functional with the tube work. I think it turned out pretty good. What I really liked about the HF bender is that you use pipe that is way cheaper. And I'm all about cheap and functional :waytogo:. I don't want you to feel like you are slacking....but at the same time I am excited to see progress on yours

Got all the springs pulled apart and painted. I have the EZ inches installed and set up to set the axle forward an inch and a half. Just waiting for my new bushings to show up.
