My 86 K5 build

Ouch.
:doah:

Poor doors.

haha you should see what happens to vehicles in general out in these rust free states! You would want to kill people.

Nice build by the way! Didn't know you were a local! Don't know how I missed this build. We'll have to get together for sure at some point. Brad 63chevyII lives right down the road from me too. Cool dude to chill with.

Thanks. Yeah, we all need to get together and run some trails soon. I'm in the middle of this tbi motor/tranny swap right now. But my goal is to have everything in and running by the end of the year or sooner. We shall see. What's funny is I think Brad knew the guy who originally built my k5 with the tons, 383, and everything (as it looked in my first post of this thread). My rig was orginally built by a dude down there in CO springs, then sold to a guy up here in Parker that only owned for about 4-5 months before selling it to me. Small world.

Brad and I both are pretty close. Maybe we should have a few build nights and help each other out. Get these things going sooner! what did your rear shaft measure out to be? I know mine will be slightly different in length due to axle position etc. just curious about what length I'm looking at.

That sounds good to me. My blazer is at my dad's shop which is east of parker a couple miles, so that might be a bit of a drive for you guys, but if you need some help, I would be willing to come down there and lend a wrenching hand

I don't remember exactly what my rear shaft measures. This weekend I will working on getting the motor/tranny out of the donor rig and will get a measurement for you. I liked Tom Woods. They were actually cheaper than anywhere else I could find, even after shipping and even comparing to local guys.

sweet thanks man. I'm sure brad wouldn't mind making the trip. I wouldn't mind either. I bet the biggest issue would be a time that worked for all of us. I'll have to do some pricing with tom woods. I may throw a shaft together quick just for mock up and flex purposes. Then order a good one for the final result.

That would probably be smart just so you can at least get it mobile until you figure out the end result for the rear shaft.

I just sent you a pm with my contact info in it. Let me know if you need some help with anything :waytogo:

Don't have any updated pics of the rig, but I have been doing a lot of work. The motor and tranny from the donor truck are sitting on the shop floor waiting to go in, and the tranny/motor out of mine should be out this week. Plus I have been doing a lot of the small stuff that takes a lot of time (like pulling my old fuel tank and fuel lines, crap like that). I didn't get any work done on it last weekend because of this: :D

And I still have an elk tag I'm trying to fill this next weekend.

Im pretty much in the same boat as you progress wise, takes longer than you expected huh? Oh and nice rack :D

Haha, thanks. It was a fun hunt

Yeah, there are always things that take a lot more time than you want, plus, I have been pulling a lot of parts off the donor and putting them on my dad's blazer too. Getting close though. I am hoping by the end of the year I will have the TBI motor in and running, that is my goal. Plus, it makes it go longer cause the rigs are not at my house, there are at my dad's. No that means I can't work on it during the week that much, just weekend warrior stuff

Is your's all painted up and bolted in yet? I am actually planning on getting some DIY4x motor mounts while doing this, just cause it will be easier to put them in right now than waiting to do it later

I hear ya Man. I wish I had that long to work but with the cold weather coming and a scheduled wheeling trip on November 2nd, I am in a rush now. I just got rid of the donor truck yesterday, so that by itself took a whole day stripping it and hauling it in.

My rig is also at my Dad's place so it's not as easy to just get home and start working on it. It's all painted and pretty much ready besides a few things. I am going to try and have my engine out of the K10 by the end of the week. New motor mounts would be nice.

Time for an update. I have been doing a lot of work on this thing whenever I can find the time. There have been a lot of small crap to deal with and get figured out, but I have made good progress

I got the tranny pulled out of my K5 and sold to my bro-in-law (which is now the start of my TrailWorthy Fab bealock rim's fund
grinpimp.gif
). And today I got my motor pulled an on the engine stand (my bro wants to take this motor and build it with some vortec heads and other goodies down the road, so we will be keeping it around)

Empty engine bay

I also decided this was as good of time as any to change my motor mounts, so decided to go with DIY4x's comp motor mount, mainly because they are bad a$$

Old mounts removed

Painted and installed

And installed on TBI Motor, and also TBI motor and tranny waiting to go in

have also removed all my old fuel lines and installed the TBI fuel lines from the donor truck (in the factory position). Then I did the power steering pump mod to this pump cause I am not able to use my old pump cause this is a serp setup motor (like I said, a lot of little things). So it should be bolt the motor and tranny in, and install fuel tank, some wiring and should be the majority of it. My goal is still to fire this thing up by the end of the year.

Hey I finally have my truck tall worthy and here you go and take yours down for major work! :haha:

Haha, I believe we call that bad communication. Like I said, give me about a month or so and I will have it going again. We need to go wheeling scott. I want to see that crew cab in action :waytogo:

hoping to be up shortly after the 1st of the year. need a "Colorado crew" run! I know we should be able to get at least 7-10 of us together.

you're going to dig that TBI swap for sure. If you need any wiring diags let me know.

I'm game for that. I bet we could get 7-10 for sure, maybe more.

Thanks dude, I may hit you up for those diagrams. I'll let you know.

Hey look, there is a TBI motor in my K5 now :pimp:

Tranny bolted up too

Now on to all the little crap like wiring

and bolting up all the other stuff. But overall I am very happy with my progress on this thing. Can't wait to get the thing fired up
