My 86 K5 build

You can trailer a street legal rig.

Martin

Yeah, but I found that with me, if I keep it street legal then I hold back from making the modifications I want to perform better offroad. Some people may not care, but living in Denver I have to deal with emissions every two years and of course, registration every year. I don't care to pay for those things on a rig I have built to drive around in the mountains.

You'll have to put some sort of registration on it even for forest service roads. If not license plates then whatever tags atv's run.

Yeah, I know. My dad does that on another vehicle we have. That is way cheaper than emissions, license, and insuring the vehicle.

One place I would really want to have a street legal vehicle is Moab.

Too bad you live in the city. No emissions where I live. :D

What's funny is I don't really live in the city. Castle Rock is kinda out there, but still in Douglas County, which adopted emissions crap. What you gonna do, ya know.

I could see a street legal rig being nice in Moab, but my mentality on Moab has changed a little bit. I would still like to go to Blazer Bash just for the experience, but after going to multiple Easter Jeep Safari's and going a couple other times just because, I realized that I pass a lot of fantastic trails to go to Moab. And that's a lot of gas . Moab is really cool, I just don't think it's really worth the extra cost when I could hit some sweet trails on the way.

I guess if the whole town was full of fullsizers I would think different. Maybe that means I should go to Blazer Bash!?!

You know they're not mutually exclusive. You can wheel in Colorado and Utah.... :p: :D

Although wouldn't you also have an ohv tag for Utah also then?

Can't you register it in a different county?

Martin

Only if you have a physical address that you can claim as at least a partial residence that is in that different county. Which I don't. Hopefully a family member will move to a different county that I could try that, but for now that is not an option, nor will it be anytime soon.

So about that running issue..........

Yeah, about that :doah:. Haven't had the time to go to my dad's place to work on it the last couple weeks. I am planning on hitting it hard on Saturday, so hopefully some progress and hopefully running halfway decent by the end of the weekend. I will keep you updated. Have you figured anything out with your bro's burban?

A local shop here is dead set on the dis. being the issue. My brother said the previous owner had put a new one in, but we all know how to tell stories to get something sold :D. I guess the next direction is to go that route.

Yeah, worth a shot cause it's pretty cheap. I put new plugs, wires, and cap on mine and it didn't do a bit of difference. I also have changed MAP and CTS with no luck. That's why I think mine is wiring somewhere. I think we have either overlooked something or just missed something all together.

The shop said something about the magenet being the issue on the dist. and that it is a pretty common issue. If we have any luck I will let you know.

Built a simple spare tire mount. Those are the web gussets that you can buy from DIY4x

Bolted it to the floor. Should work pretty well

And it is a perfect fit with the tailgate closed

Nice! I need to do that. I've lost my spare out the back more than a few times wheeling :haha:

Well, made some great progress over the weekend. Don't know if anyone cares about this, but I was excited :D. ssyork was kind enough to send me his TBI computer out of his rig (cause he is swapping a 5.3 in currently). He had a custom chip burned for his cause he had a vortec fuel pump and a 454 TBI unit, but I decided to just plug it in and see what happens. I could tell immediatly that it was cranking and trying to start way better, but didn't want to start, so I swapped out the chip's from my stock ECM. It still had a little bit of a hard time starting up and idling right off the bat. We had an old TBI unit sitting around, so we decided to swap the IAC too, and that seemed to help out quite a bit.

We then hooked up my dad's code reader to it, and it said no codes! :pimp: It seemed like after a little bit the computer started to learn and it started to run better and better. So I decided to pull it out of the shop and start to drive it around. The thing was smoking out the exhaust like crazy, especially just out of the right bank, to the point we were thinking maybe the valve's weren't seating all the way. But I just decided to take it out and stretch it's legs a little. After getting it up to 50 or 60 mph it stopped smoking!! And seems to be running a lot better. So I am going to just put the dash back together and run it for a while.
