Well i figured im far enough in that I could start a build up of my 1991 Chevy S10 2wd

With the jimmy needing more tlc that i could afford right now and after experiencing my first body damage (which made me sad :haha:) i decided to park it until my gf and I move to a larger house and there i would be able to do a larger resto of it in hopes to make it more tow friendly.
Well I wasn't about to be without a off-road rig so the s10 list began and the parts started piling up.

Started by getting the axles situated. That began with a back and forth argument whether to stay stock tcase, fork out the cash for a ford 44/60 and stay driver drop or take the harder road and go passenger drop axles and swap tcase along with driveline/exhaust reworking.

Well i chose the first route when i found a ford lp 44 for relatively cheap but that turned out to be a money pit that I didnt want plus I wanted to keep my chevy...a chevy throughout.

So i sold that axle to Mike and went with a chevy d44 with 4.10s and a welded carrier.

for the rear i went with an Eaton H072 from a 70 chevy with 4.10s and a Detroit.

As far as suspension I chose to stay leaf sprung for now (will eventually do a link/coilover in the front). Front leafs consist of s10 rears with the overload removed and 2 heep leafs added. Rears are stock 5 leaf F150 rears with a longer shackle.

As far as the process it was fairly easy. The rear was a straight axle swap with a conversion ujoint for the driveshaft and 32" stainless steel braided brake line.

The front was a bit for involved but involved me frenching in my spring hanger (which is 2x5x3/16 rect. Box tube) into the front frame horns about 1-1.5" and staggard the position 75% under the frame. I wanted to push the axle forward to try and make my approach angle as good as i could.

The rear of the springs got a shackle hanger from skys offroad that i bought originally for my first s10 (an 87 s15 2wd). I mocked up the front springs and axle under the truck after removing all the stock suspension and set up the rear hanger under the frame.

It landed on kind of a crappy spot that had 40% of the hanger off the frame so I made some paper templets and had Chris plasma them out in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to angle grind em out.

As for tires I originally thought i would run some free 35s that my cuz gave my dad but they turned out to be 33s so that wouldnt do but for mock up. Decided that the jimmy really didnt need beadlocks like an offroader would so the H1s came off the jimmy and onto the s10

Specs:
1991 Chevy S-10
Extended can 2wd
4.3l V6 with a nv3500 5spd and a 231 tcase (soon to be a 241 if i ever find one)
D44 w/ 4.10s and welded
Eaton H072 w/ 4.10s and Detroit
37s on H1s

Thanks!

The front hanger took 3 different versions before I found one I liked
And the rear hangers are nice, I like that there all enclosed.

Got some new spring perches for the rear and 8* shims for the front from WFO.

Also should have my crossover arms back from the company i bought em from as I had to semd em back to get em drilled/tappered for chevy tre's. there sold as blanks with just the mounting stud holes but he offers an option for drill/taper which i didnt know till after i recieved em.

It's so weird, watching a truck get built... And, then seeing the thread. :haha:
Perspective... :D

I can't wait to see this thing done.

If you ever need some help, to get it done faster, just let me know when.

I know, its weird seeing 3 years worth of planning/dreaming/parts gathering summed up into 1 post :haha:

I know Ill need hope somewhere along the line... but not till your 70 is done and breathing fire :waytogo:

Its funny cuz I had no clue, and I thought you were just that much of a badass for building a rig in 5 seconds :haha:

...

:haha:
In all fairness, i would have just thrown parts at it and taken one step forward and 2 steps back, plus it worked out for both of us. My s10 got a chevy axle a d the yota now has the starts of a sas.

S10 update: got my order of o-rings for the h1s
Seems like everytime I disassemble these things I end up f***ing up one so this time I bought extras. Got the rim put back together and aired up. We shall see in the morning how my "spur of the moment in the dark cuz i has no exterior lighting" tire mounting fares.

I like all those words.... :haha:

But, yeah... You NEED extra parts. :deal:

PS: In the 1st post, you need a "currently" pic, below the start pic. :D

Got my 241 last night. Found one on clist for cheap and had to snag it as it is 27 spline and vss so its all ready to go.

Also got my hi steer arms, degree shims and perches ready to install so i should be getting close to driving this thing soon!

I should be able to get you those funds, Friday.... If that's cool. :deal:
For the LP44, in case that wasn't clear...

Ugh.... And, I LOVE the way the SAS-10 looks.... I want one. :D

SAS-10.... Sounds so official. :haha:
(although, technically, I think it's an SAS-20.)

Did some stuff
Put it together...take it back apart
null_zps82482c12.jpg

Made some sliders fir the front springs. Had was too many issues with almost every steering angle possible and these made a WORLD of difference.

:haha:
better late than never.

im hoping to have this thing driving by the weekend, but have a load of stuff to do still.

Front:
weld on sliders
gusset sliders
cut draglink to length
install all steering componets
install new ss brakelines and calipers
once over balljoints
grease up everything
torque everything down

Rear:
hone wheel cylinders
install driveshaft
replace rear shackles
put in new hub seals
bleed brakes
torque down everything

this all to move it to the new pad then once there this list is up next:
start np241 adapter
install 241
shorten mid shaft
build front shaft
build flat belly skid (roomate has 2 4x8 sheets of .250 steel )

then Enjoy and build body protection and storage in the bed while wheeling
