My build-DOWN thread...

Cant tell you how good it felt to drive it back and forth to work today. Just ran good the whole time. It gave that feeling of nonchalance that you want when driving down the road. Where you just get to chill out on your drive. The steering on the other hand as previously mentioned is insanely bad. The too tight steering box and the sloppy bushing combine to create a hand full! But at least it runs good dangit!

Sounds like it shifted too early. But ya you should still get more out of it, get that tune worked on.

Yea when i hold first I get it up to about 45 before I shift! Stupid tall 1st in the th400 with the 3.73's and 33s don't do much to make any motor seem impressive off the line but yea, I know the tune is off. There is a guy on pirate and I can't remember his name but he's In Washington and sounds like the guy to send a computer to. Trouble is It's $150. So it will have to wait until I take care of a few other things. Primarily the exhaust! I have become intolerant of loud and leaky exhaust so that needs taken care of. Then the other thing is the front end. All the ball joints and tie rod/drag link ends are fresh but several other things need made right on it. Lots to do before i can worry about a "lack" of power. In the mean time it does run really well and I'm definitely glad I did the swap.

Its gotta be that TH400, those things suck up a ton of power. NV4500 swap FTW

First post! Nice! Yea it will do that. Thing varies quite a bit from a hard stop to a hard acceleration! But i know what you meant, and i have said it before, if i didnt live 2 miles from work i wouldnt be able to afford to drive these things any more!

Lol yeah first post in two years, long time lurker here. Good old sending unit, gauge moves up and down on hills, hard stop, when turning, etc. I've had 4 Blazer so I'm pretty used to it. And with gas here at $3.79 it kills me to be able to drive my K5's around.

So I haven't had this thing on the road a week and already I have hauled a queen size mattress and now 17 sheets of drywall with 3 pieces of plywood! How did I (and everyone I associate with...) Live with out this thing?!

Suburbans are so cool. Queen size mattress, box spring and frame? No problem! 17 sheets of 4x8 1/2"drywall (which works out to be 918 lbs) plus the three 4x8 sheets of plywood, plus a bunch of other drywalling stuff? No problem! Haul it all within a week of being back on the road from a 5.3 swap? No big deal! Is my head almost to big to even be held up by my neck? You know it!

gotta love using something you built! ill second the th400 sucking the power up. mines 2wd 4.10 and 285's (32 ish) tires with a fresh 355 and taking off i feel like it sucks the power right out of it!

Just quick pic of it being to put to work some more. This was just me unloading a drywall hanger. Anyway, i have about 100 miles on the 5.3 now. Still runs good! Also still need the exhaust done... Calling today to get a quote.

In response to post 62. I finally got around to taking care of the front leaf spring bushing this weekend. It turns out that these springs I put in when i un lifted it had the eye oval shaped on the driver side. So i had to swap the whole spring out on that side. None the less it is done now! Can't wait to drive it and see if it made a difference in in driveability!

Aside from that, yesterday I cleaned the ENTIRE truck. Vacuumed every nook and cranny, whiped down the carpet and seats, armor alled every piece of trim etc. It has been a couple YEARS since I actually detailed this thing so that's a good feeling.

Also im FINALLY getting the exhaust done friday!

Happy to report that it drives much better now! Also nice having full throttle again! When i put my new cable on it wasnt quite right. Only would give me 78% throttle. Now its back to 100%.

Turns out im getting the exhaust done today! Should have a report on it this evening! All im having them do is adapt the new down pipes to the old system. Currently i just ghetto fabbed some misc pieces from autozone to get me by.

Exhaust is done! Sounds amazing! More over, it sounds like a normal vehicle without eleventy billion exhaust leaks! I love how mellow it sounds! I'll have some sound clips up tomorrow.

So from now on, All posting about the burb will be in this thread. Babaganoosh inspired me to want to make it to Blazer Bash. I cant go this year as im already taking a vacation. So i want to make it to 2015 BB. At the same time, i will be on an epic road trip. From Portland, to Yellowstone, down to Moab, to Phoenix, And home through Vegas, grand canyon, and crater lake and finally home to Portland. It will be an epic 3000+ mile trip with 52 hours total drive time.

So, the moral of the story is, i have about a year and a half to get the truck all the way done and road worthy. The list of to do's is long, but not too overwhelming. List goes something like this.

Rebuild steering box
replace front pinion seal
rebuild/replace front drive shaft
paint the door jambs
new front window motors
window relays
new stereo and speakers
new headliner
air conditioning
new front brakes
reseal transfer-case
xj steering shaft
cruise control

and probably several other little things.

So here is where i will be posting progress and questions. First thing on the actual to do list is window motors and relays. Followed by painting the door jambs.
