My build-DOWN thread...

Wonder if this could have anything to do with the spongy, loose steering feeling i have. Also really wonder what the hell those popping sounds are! You can see that there is nearly a 1/4" of back and forth movement on the spring when i steer the wheel back and forth. During that time, the push pull steering is only push pulling the the axle straight back and forth and not actually even turning the tires! FYI, these are fancy polyurethane bushings... Looks like im going to try a set of stck rubbers again.

And just for fun, another video! Having capabilities of putting video on the interweb is still a bit of a novelty so for now i just like to share my stuff with the world! Two things about this vid. Im pretty sure that i wired my 02 wrong, and the gas thats in there is now nearing a year and a half old of just sitting in the tank at about half full and mostly out side. So, i have convinced myself that that is where a majority of the water vapor is coming from. Also, after i shut it off from this video then tried to re start it, i had to unplug the injectors cause it was so flooded!

Funny story, during the filming of that video, i had pooped the coolent temp sensor. The really funny part about that is that i just so happened to grab the brand new one i had up at the cabin the last time i was there... So i put it in, and it runs better then in that video but it still dont run right. I'll take another video but the jist of what happened is as soon as i got the o2 sensor in and working, the temp sensor pooped.

Me and my buddies. Long story but this was Feb. '07 just after i had gotten the new motor in. To put the video in perspective, most of us were pretty loaded and the oldest of us were 21... Hence the commentary! Anyway, they are videos of a vhs on my tv and as a result, the picture/sound is aweful. But if you can deal with it, its pretty entertaining... Most of it is my buddy scott driving.

It wont matter for several years and im very likely to change my mind, but i have pretty well decided what i want my next motor in this thing to be! I really want to get a 97-99 vortec 350. Make it a 383, leave the heads alone, something like a comp 262 roller cam, edelbrock performer intake with any edelbrock writing shaved off and painted black to match the engine, normal HEI distributor and FAST ezefi! This way, at first glance, it would look like a stock TBI 350. But it would be MUCH more powerful and probably more efficient to! But mostly it would be a powerful stock looking engine. Of coarse, i will probably just go the other route of the LQ4 cause it will be much cheaper than building a vortec 383, but it would be awesome to have it look like a stock LO5!
 
Further more, going back and looking at the pics of this thing makes me sad. 5 years of neglect and missuse has left it in rough shape. I cant wait until i hit top pay at work and can actually have time and money to work on this thing. I think i have decided that im just going try and get a loan to get it whipped into shape. Sucky thing is i have also pretty much decided that im just going to have to let a body shop do the body work at the same time that they paint it. So my paint bill is probably going to end up in the 3-4k range pretty easy. So i'll probably need about a 10k loan to get it to a point where im happy with it. Oh well. We'll see. Got about 3-4 years to think about it still.
 
most credit unions will lend you nearly 10k against that thing now. probably a $250 payment. Or do the motor loan now against it. and do the body one when thats paid off. way less payment :dunno::waytogo:

Well for those that missed it, the burb now has a 5.3 in it! Here is a pic and vid.

With that, now its time to focus on the paint and body:doah: Really not looking forward to it as it really needs quite a bit of work and i have very limited experinece with it. Fortunatly there is no rust repair that needs done(except the roof...) but there are several shopping cart style dents, both fenders and barn doors need replaced and there is one really big dent behide the passenger rear tire.

My plan is to start by completely painting the roof as it is pretty dang bad. Also probably a good place to start as no one will really ever see it! I plan on taking the roof down to good clean metal and then prime, paint, clear it. Should be quite the adventure.

CLR Results. I cant say that it is a miracle cure for rust but it does seem to work pretty good! Im sure alot of it had to do with the scotch brite pad i was using but none the less. It took my roof from full on focked to manageable in less then an hour. Worth it to me!

Just make sure you get it all off when you get ready to paint. Just like anything else it can bubble and ruin a paint job if it doesn't get all removed. Nooks and crannies, nooks and crannies.:whistle:
