My build-DOWN thread...

The ones on rock auto arent the same as mine. And they are all cut and splice.

Here is the rock auto one. I'll get more pics of mine.

Mine are just hose clamped, I'm not entirely confident in them. I'll eventually have nicer ones made.

Little updates.

I got about this far on my steering box rebuild before I realized I have the wrong kit. It's the one that rock auto specs for it. I'll get one locally and send this one back to rock auto. I suspect this is for a 90 pickup with ifs. I'll try one for an 87 and see if that's the right one.

Also my "new" harness came in today. Got it from babaganoosh after he decided to go brand new.

And cleared the runway for me to set up my tables to start attacking the harness.

Step one of stand alone harness modification is complete. Un pinning the ecm connectors. The spaghetti going up on the right side are all the non needed wires!

Damn, I'm getting frustrated wiring 3 relays! Couldn't imagine doing a whole harness!

Great work!

All unneeded wires out. Just need to put it in the ttruck from some test fitting/adjustments/establishing wire lengths. Then pull it, loom it, and re install permanently.

And all the unneeded wires.

Nice work man, I respect your patience. that's not something I would take on myself. Maybe on the next project.

I think I have all of 5 hours into the work itself. But countless into research!

I guess with it laid out on a table and all opened up it wouldn't be so bad. I believe the research part, knowing what to do before diving into it helps a lot I'm sure.

Little more set up of the wiring. Need to get new intake gaskets and wait for my wire I ordered to tie all the pinks together.

Wire should be here tomorrow. So hopefully a re-test fire before memorial day. IF not, then the weekend after for sure.

In reality, you could probably loom it on the bench and have it turn out fine. But because I moved some wires/connectors around, I needed to have it in place. I should have it fired up next week still I think.

First off, I scored these 04 gto manifolds on Craigslist for $5 each! Don't know if I'll ever use them, but these things normally go for at least $50 each!

Secondly I ended up just going to a junk yard and getting the other style input shaft for my steering box. Hard to tell but the one on the left is the new junk yard one and has a smaller diameter where the bearing and seals ride.

While I was there I saw this rare gentleman Jim there and cried a little.

But I did get the box all put together and can't wait to see if it will work or not.

And an aside for anyone looking to block off the egr port in their ls intake, this is the part number for the freeze plug.

5.3L intake? I had it tuned out but good to know I can outright delete it on the old 'hoe

Yep. If you go on eBay and look up something like ls egr delete, you will find dozens of people selling them for like $15. These freeze plugs are like $1.55.

A shame that Gentleman Jim truck got junked--they only made a few thousand of those trucks according to a chevy truck buyers guide I have...even though its mostly a decor package, its still "one of few"..
