My Build Thread - The stuff actually works

I know this sounds like something you should not have to do, but fill the allen heads or at least put a good tack weld on there.

we used star point bolts on my friends toyota when he replaced the winch after his fisrt one got ripped off..well someone stole the new one too:mad:

if someone sees the allen heads, they will just come back with the right tools, you dont remove the winch that often I hope, so having to bust out a grinder should not be that big of a deal if its keeps your winch yours.

I love tack welding things, the sleave on my stereo and the cae on my amp are not moving anytime soon:D

Thanks - That's a good idea. I will tack them in tomorrow while I'm working on things.

Got the Powertrax in, disc brakes on, and chrome moly shafts in. The shafts have been sitting in my garage for a year.

Two steps forward, one back. Couple of questions on this post:

:mad:The differential is now leaking gear oil. I didn't use any gasket sealer with the new gasket. I guess I am going to have to pop the cover and throw some sealer on.

:mad:A WTF moment - moved the truck, I see a drip behind the RF tire. The heater core started leaking today!!!!

This truck pisses me off today!!

The parking brake cables are like an inch too short now. They are not long enough to seat in the bracket. Anyone know if they make longer ones?

Also, anyone know if there a particular pattern to tighten the 12 bolt diff cover? I'm too tired and lazy to look it up right now.

I found my answer about the parking brake cables- search and ye shall find:

I guess I will be modifying the stock brackets or look for longer cables.

The rear cables for a 125 inch wheel base van is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92465 {46" Overall Length}

and the rear cables for the 110 inch wheel base is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92918 {47 1/4" Overall Length}

BTW the stock cables for a 72 Blazer are 40 1/2 inch overall length.
I'm going to purchase them tomorrow and let you all know for sure that they work. From the images of the cable the ends on all 3 are the same.

Here's a pic of the bumper with the plate in place - I'll post a better one tomorrow (in daylight). I welded up a couple of the bolts. (Supersize - Thanks for the advice.) Anyone wanting this will need to have a grinder:

the blazer looks like a nice project, its a bummer I cant be in a relationship with a blazer and keep the sheetmetal on it:( we just dont agree about it:D

the bumper should stay put as long as you and your nieghbors are not heavy sleepers:thumb:

I want that bumper!! And I have a grinder ;) :hack::grind:

J/K, but that thing is sweet. Wish I had the skills and equipment to make a bumper like that.

Thanks

Here a couple of pics in daylight with the thing all done and mounted.

I've got fully functional brakes again.:saweet:

I finally got the extended parking brake cables on this thing. Rock Auto is awesome. I had to fab up some new brackets, bent new hard lines and tabs for the flex lines.

Disc brake swap on my 12 bolt for under $200 for everything: calipers, mounts, rotors, extended parking brake lines, new hard line and the rebuild kits for the calipers.

I didn't need to do anything with the proportioning valve. The brake bias seems fine with the factory valve.

Score!!!!!!!!!!!

:saweet:I picked up a soft top. Its looks brand new. A STC fast track for $200.00. :cool1:

Now I only need the instructions to install it.

hey the build is looking great - nice work, but remember - all work and no play... Hit the trails and test out the new parts and take some pics. I am hurting for some warm weather and to see the dirt again. Snow is nice but it gets old.

You have no idea how right you are. I'm going to go out next weekend to hit some trails. I am taking a few days off in 2 weeks for the same thing.

I got my soft top on today. It was missing the four brackets that mount the bows. Thanks to ryoken for providing the dimensions.
2 pieces of angle iron + 2 flat stock = custom made brackets.

I had to get new tires and wheels for my dd. Discount Tires treated me pretty good. I got these wheels for a pretty good deal.

I'm running 33 x 12.5/15's. Four inch EZ ride in the front and a shackle flip for the rear. I also have zero rates on all corners.

I'm not planning on anything bigger, for now. We'll see when I get through these tires. I'm pretty sure I won't run anything bigger than 35's.

What do you do with 7 pieces of scrap tubing?

Weld them up. Makes a great parts hanger.

Great day today. I ran out of gas for my mig on the last weld.

Rear bumper all painted up - mounting it tomorrow.
