My Build UPDATE---lots of pictures--2/1/2010

Fire number 2(the biggest so far). Just a tip don't let a plastic fuel filter sit on top of the intake manifold.:doah:
img00008s.jpg

This truck must be cursed as the other night was fire #3. Something grounded a main wire and I got to see what a glowing wire looks like. And for those keeping track #1 was the battery switch that burned up.:haha:

on to the updates...

Cage work is done. It needs to be all welded up but the tube is in. I'm still gonna add some bracing and the door bars will go in last as to not be in the way.

gonna get it all welded up and possibly get the wiring done this week

man you guys are pushy.

The truck left my shop today ... where are the pics man ? :D
and like you haven't seen it enough.:D

I managed to find the steering problem today. ended up being a bad power steering pump. That was after driving back and forth to the autoparts 4 times. Also got the cage painted. Just need to do a couple of the tubes by the dash still.

anyways onto the pictures.

solid mounted the front core support
pb251910.jpg

Steering box drilled top cap and a JKW end cap. I'm running the 2" bore 8" stroke ram

pb251912.jpg

The tubing from the A pilalr through the engine comparment. Also had to triangulate down to the frame. I had a huge amount of frame flex with the ford towers on there. Got rid of them and added the tube and no more flex problems. The shocks will be mounting in between the 2 down tubes.

pb251917.jpg

Apparently my booty fab tray wasn't gonna cut it.:doah: In with the new
pb251919.jpg

Center console section, also where the gauges will be and then more sheet metal for the dash.
pb251923.jpg

Door bars. This is gonna get some sheet metal to cover the opening as well. There won't be doors going back on this.
pb251920.jpg

Cage from the rear. Also the new rear bumper.
pb251924.jpg

pb251925.jpg

Gussets for the rear bumper
pb251926.jpg

More solid mounting. Basically the cage replaced all the factory body mounts. Anywhere there were mounts were replaced with cage tubing going right to the frame.
pb251927.jpg

pb251928.jpg

More of the rear of the cage.
pb251930.jpg

CB mount right at cab level
pb251934.jpg

B-pillar section of the cage.
pb251932.jpg

Halo section with a center roof bar.
pb251933.jpg

For the driver seat we did a pin system. The seat is mounted to a piece of square stock that fits in the rails. The stock has holes drilled out so anybody can reach the pedals. The pins worked out great, after some tweaking, for getting the seat in and out quick.
pb251931.jpg

Rocksliders also have some cage tie-ins and body mounts to them.
pb251935.jpg

pb251936.jpg

pb251937.jpg

This is how the other "body mounts" were done. This tube goes directly, in this case, to the slider.
pb251938.jpg

Transmission shifter mount on the cage
pb251939.jpg

And the cut on the front and rear fenders.

That's it for tonight. More painting tomorrow and then wiring this weekend.

Can;t view till I'm home damnit. Work computer does not allow. I saw some pics a few days ago Devin, looks real good.

Thanks. CragRat did the bending and welding for all the tube work among other things. It turned out really nice.

man!!!!!! as soon as I get my Blazer finished Im gonna look to pick up another! so I can start a monster build like Ive been reading since I got here!!! Maybe I can make that Alaska trip... :D

Do the seat pins rattle at all?

don't really have any drive time yet, so as far as rattling while I'm driving, dont' know. But they are in there pretty tight and with my fat ass in the seat, strapped down, I don't see them rattling much.

GEEEZ ok only a week of doing wiring:doah: but it's done and everything works. I did manage to break one of my rock lights. turns out they don't bounce if you drop them. I'll put pictures up tomorrow.

Cool, I'm dreaming of the day I have the $$$ for a full set of good gauges to mount in a center console dash. What are those relays for behind the dash? Switched power for all the gauges back lights and such or are they for lights elsewhere?

the relays are: 1 for each fan, 1 for headlights, 1 for rock lights. I still need to add a backup light and an in cab light.

Headlights and front rock lights

rear rock lights are mounted under the rockers facing backwards

engine bay wiring all ran and tied. Need to get a few clips so I can ditch the zip ties. Also need new battery cables and to shorten the wire from the alternator
pc041950.jpg

Got it all pretty well tucked out of the way and tie up where it all goes through the fire wall
pc041951.jpg

behind the dash cleaned up

I love it when I find a older post that has begun again, and you can see all the progress that has been made. Looks good. I really like the way the dash is turning out. Are you planning on painting it or are you going to let the rocks take care of that for you?:laugh::laugh:
