Well, I have always wondered how some guys were so lucky enough to find a supposedly awesome deal on tires, engines, vehicles and so forth.

Well, I may have found my lucky break...or maybe not. Time shall tell.

1988 v30 Chevrolet crew dually
454/400/205/d60/d70hd
4.10 gears and power windows and locks

Story I got is that those original Nevada truck was at one point a diesel. Motor was shot or weak or whatever and was replaced with the 454.
It's got a massive holly carburetor and the guy I bought it from says it has a "cam". He Didn't put the motor in it so there's no telling what's actually in it...guess I'll find out. Interior is very clean for it's age, body straight and very minimal surface rust. Never had a goosneck hitch and no major dents. I was highly amazed at the body

Main issues the guy had were that it's got a "stray short" and that it was causing him issues with the local homeowners association. He works alot and had no time to mess with it so he needed it gone asap.

Sorry, on my iPhone....I meant the electrical has a "stray short" and the battery is always going out on it when he is away. The truck sat alot and it caused the issues with the homeowners.

Said it ran less than 4 months ago.

Thanks y'all, I've always wanted an old square body Crew cab and dually or not, I'm pretty stoked up about it still.

Well, may have found the "short". got home yesterday and threw a battery in it. When i went to turn it over it was evident something was up with the starter. turns out the headers had burnt through one of the wires. cut and spliced and added a little bit of extra wire and then hopped back in and with a little shot of fuel to the holly from a squirt gun for prime, it fired right up.

Pretty pumped up. I drove it around for a few hours. So far so good.

The more I drive mine, the more I love it. And everything I fix and everything I upgrade makes it better and better. I'm digging your scallops! Nice score!

I did some digging around on it yesterday. The a/c bracketry and compressor is not in the truck....but as for the inside the blower and controls work fine.

The windwos all roll up and down (some slower than others) and the locks work.

Radio works just fine :thumb:

Need to work on the horn though and replace a few running light bulbs and lenses.

Other than that all the turn signals work as do the high and low beams. :woot:

Build plans?

Well, still kicking around thoughts in my head. I told myself I wasnt going to start doing anything major on this truck until I had "possum" rolling and somewhat functioning under its own weight.

But Id like to have a plan of attack for this rig.
Points of consideration... I dont need a dually, the truck will see mainly some bumper pulling such as ATV's and loads of wood or scrap. Sometimes it may see retrieval or extraction duties...so road worthy and basic offroad is a must.

Im thinking Something along these lines.
- Ditch the dually look. SRW disc conversion by using a set of 14 bolt SRW hubs i have sitting around and some uncentered h1's. much like "possum"
- Since the bed is going I dont feel like ill have a ton of luck finding a solid straight long bed around here...so I have a lead on a flatbed that may work out.
-Ill either find set of 3/4 ton lift springs or use some 63" lifted HD2500 springs. But Id rather not run a shakle flip because im not a fan of the compression shackles when towing.
-Thinking just some custom lifted factory length springs, i hear that the 52's tend to sag overtime and sice its gonna be and onroad truck and not a crawler im not worried about a ton of flex. jsut a good ride that can support the weight of the 454 and a winch up front.

Looking at just enough lift to run a solid set of 35's or 37's. Rebuild the front axle with some 4.56 gears if i go 37's and then a locker. run uncentered H1's there aswell. A set it up with hydro assisted crossover. The rear would also get the gears/locker treatment.

Thats my basic idea I guess. THoughts? worries? suggestions?

i figured i had a burnt swich in steering for turn / brake / 4 way as i would pop fuses bad.

replaced it still there but old switch was worn bad.

just happen to be changing oil and looked over and found old brittle plastic wire clip in frame rail had snapped and let rear wire loom down frame for fuel tank / pump / tail lights get on exaust and bounce on/off a lot. melted 3 of 4 wires for tail / brake / turn . fixed it and still working :haha:

simple sh!t get you every time.

The 90's called. They want their paint job back.

Nice score, BTW.

lol yeah we get a pretty good laugh from that paint scheme. Its kinda been dubbed the "Cowboy cadillac" :waytogo:

I wouldnt flat bed it. Cant you just pop the dual wheel wells off the box and have a regular box? To me it needs a paint job anyways (im not diggin the stripe effect goin on lol) so you could do that then.

Nope. Wheel openings are all hacked up from the factory under the hips.

If i keep the bed ill have to either

a)keep it dually
b)SRW it and find a decent long bed to swap on there.

if i go B, and this is only an assumption, i think any long bed will work or someone correct me. I may have to find a crew cab bed.. :dunno:
