My first car- 71 Jimmy

Recognized it immediately from the pic of picking up your blazer. Sweet!

That things badazz! Id drive the hell out of it. Hope it all works out

Thanks guys. And yeah I'm planning on putting a levelling kit, turbo, injectors, and new pipe on it. Then just get some 32's for it and drive the piss out of it

good work to you and good lookin on your dads part for pushing you to buy it.

nice rig subscribed

Cool but if you got no money... just get tires and drive it.
DON'T get sucked into the go fast thing if your broke.:dunno:

Good advice. You have one project, don't start another until you can actually afford it. Sounds like money is tight, be smart, and keep having fun with the blazer.

Put the 6bt/getrag in the jimmy! :D

I thought about it! But nah I'd put it in a 72 gmc 2500 custom camper my grandpa has sittin... But the dodge is it great condition so I'll leave it alone unless something happens to the body. And I can't afford to be vehicleless while the jeep and Benz are down

Those old dodges are the best, you have my dream truck right there, 4wd, dually, manual, ext. cab. Add a 366 spring ($20), tweak the pump a bit and install a 16 cm exhaust housing and you'll have one reliable and powerful beast.

Thanks stumpjump. I wanna do some to it but I don't want to get too crazy cause that's what the jimmy is for. It's supposed to be the power hungry monster, not the tow rig hahaha
Also I have a question or two. On the jimmy I was thinking of doing a few things on the front suspension. It has a super lift HD 5.5" on it, with stock shackle. It is rough as hell and doesn't flex the best. I was thinking of pulling a leaf and adding an extended shackle and maybe a homemade zero rate to push the axle forward like an inch or a half inch. How good of an idea is this? I'd like to keep my height and maybe add an inch. But I haven't messed with my springs and I'm a little iffy on pullin my leafs and messin around with my front. Only thing I'm a little concerned about is that I don't have a sway bar or steering stabilizer, and it's great on the road. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Well it's been a while.... But not too much has happened. I got the half doors closer to being done and I got a job as a mechanic at the sears auto center. But last night I got cocky. There was a guy with a mid 2000's Chevy pickup z71 with an exhaust and he wanted to race. I kept up with him until we hit a red light and it was time for the take off. Let's say a torque converter and stock tires can't break much... A manual with a newish clutch, a locker, and 35" claws on half tons can.

And this makes it u-joint #5 and yoke #4.... It's been over a year and a half since the last one. I would say I gotta stop doing that but I know I wont:whistle:... So I'm on the search to upsize my driveline. I found a shop nearby that will shorten and balance drivelines for 60$ so I think I'm going to head to the wrecking yard and pull a 3/4 or 1ton driveline and have it shortened. I'm looking to up to a 1330 or 1350 u-joint aswell. Anyone have an idea what I should be on the lookout for?

I beleive 1350 yokes from a 14 bolt semi float will fit right on the pinion splines.

It will go right into the 12 bolt? And I thought about just using a conversion joint and start looking for a 14 bolt FF and the parts to change my d44 over to 3/4 ton and just be set

Oh idk about 12 bolt. It will on a ten bolt I think. Well Ive switched a ten bolt yoke onto a 14bsf before, so I imagine it works in reverse

Alright I'll look into it, I should be at pick a part this weekend and I'll check some yokes.
And painting it myself was fine, I used rattle cans and there are some spots that even up close they look really good. But there are others that look like crap. When I painted it the 2nd time I was in a pinch and I had to get it done in under 2 days and I did most of the painting late at night in November. So yeah I could have made it turn out much better and I wish I would have taken more time on it. But honestly it doesn't look as bad as you would think.

Haha yeah it's not hard, just take your time and do the right prep work and a little 2000 grit wet sanding after can help a ton.
