my first experiance welding...ROOKIE WELDERS READ THIS!!

i never use gloves and weld in shorts all the time with no issues..ive got burn a time or two but i am comfy, if I am welding above my head I wear my leathers though!

Myself & AZ-K5 have spent many hours out in the 110+ heat welding with flux core. It not only sun burns you but it drops little pellets of slag all over. It is ok most of the time unless they get in the crook of your elbow. Then they burn like crap. The aftermath makes you look like a junkie with a bunch of trackmark looking spots. Try to explain that.

I now almost always weld with my sleeves and apron on. I spent alot of time last summer welding in the rafters of an RV storage complex in Indio, CA. It was a hot MF to say the least in full leather sleeves and apron but I didn't get many burns. I thought I might get heat stroke though.

hell, i will weld all day long in a tank top and just drivers gloves. i would much rather deal with the UV rays than the sweat. i even wear tennis shoes. i figure this way, i keep my irish tan all year around. i am however not as hardcore as PVFJR, this is him working on something or other:

Yeah, that was when I was living in WA. I had to do that to supplement the measly amount of sun in the dreary state. I did get burned too, but it was on my foot! It went down between my shoe and my sock, got stuck in there till my sock started smoking. I learned my lesson though, next time I'll take my shoes off too.

I had a piece of slag go through the front of my shorts and leave a hole in the front of my boxers and then an exit hole out the but end. lucky I didn't weld my nuts or worse.

One of my buddies was Oxy welding and he looked up and stopped with the filler in one hand and the torch in the other. Shut the torch off and dropped the rod burned through his jeans, underwear and right into his manhood. Still got the scar and hes willing to show anybody that will look, once hes had a few.
