So yesterday i finnaly got a chance to do a lil welding with my new lincon arc welder...just a lil paractice thats all...i starting laying some beads down right off the bat...actually seem to have a nack for welding i think...thats not the bad thing...i was welding on the ground kneeling in a pair of shorts not even think about anything...well this morning i woke up and one of my legs was burning like sunburn...i looked at it this afternoon cause i couldnt stand the pain anymore and it seems my leg got weld-burn (not the techinical name)..it sucks..like the worst sunburn ever...anyway the moral of the story is DONT WELD IN SHORTS!!Here is a pic of the caranage...didnt really show up well in the pic bur here ya go...

Try welding with just goggles and no full face shield :doah: Not only do you get sunburn on your face, but you have a nice outline from the goggles too boot. :haha:

nice yeah i have a full face auto helmet and also have a good pair of gloves...i didnt even weld long it doesnt take long to get a burn or go through a rod either..

It can be 100 degrees out and I wear my sleeves, gloves and apron.

I caught a t-shirt on fire back in high school when I was kneeling down to weld something. burning a patch of chest hair off will teach you to cover up.

I did this luckily i was wearing two shirts or i would have some scars on my belly

I have gotten a couple of those still havent learned. The worst is when you are standing up and welding and a piece of hot metal goes in your shoe. I always start doing that little dance while still trying to keep the bead straight.

Yeah ive seen this happen, once i saw some slag burn a hole right through someones leather boot, he was like"I was welding then my foot got really hot, then i looked at my at my boot and there was a hole in it". lol

tall boots, coveralls zipped all the way up, a full helmet and welding gloves...really guys its not that hard....I don't care how hot it is in our shop thats the only way I'll do it now.
Even then you can get burned if you have enough exposure...one of my bosses was doing some line boaring the other day that involved running the automatic welder for a couple hours while he was doing other stuff...he burned his eyes and skin just from the extended exposure....so yeah...quit ya' bitchin' about the heat and just cover up folks! :)

whooop, whooop.....erp, erp.....pull over. You are in violation of the CK5 Safety code!!:doah: :doah:

J/K Avery! I f'd up a couple months ago. I was burn'n an old bed frame into scrap for the angle. I was buzzing that thing right in 2. I went to flip it over to burn the bottom side when I realized that I had just grabbed right where I had just finished cutting off a brace, withy my bare hand. And I mean I grabbed that sucker and pulled up like I was gonna flipper right around. I dropped that SOB quick! Lesson learned- will wear gloves from now on!

:haha:Nice! Reminds me of when a buddy and I were hackin up a bicycle to make a "chopper" bike. I was just wearin a wife beater all day. That night I pulled the wife beater off and it still looked like I was wearing one:doah:

at work, i can't wear enough protection and i still get burnt from spatter. all my shirts i wear to work have holes in the front and side. ive set a few shoes on fire also and have a few holey socks. at home i wear just my jeans and t shirt and don't get burnt, i sometimes wear a glove on my left hand, but thats it.
