My full conversion

All the pipes have a coating on them. So I grind it off before welding. Makes it easier work with.

I also file the inside of the pipes. One more thing to make it easier to work with

H-pipe mock up

Passengers side

Drivers side

Made it so that I could remove the exhaust in one piece. Also made it easier to weld up.

My helper.

Fits like a glove. More pictures of the final install

Installed ball flanges behind the mufflers to make removing the tail pipes easier

H-pipe

Tail pipes going on tomorrow

Finished the exhaust today.

Drivers side mock up

She tight in there. But got over a 1/4" of clearance on both sides.

First tailpipe

I didnt like the first tailpipe. So changed it up to slight turndown

Drivers side ready for welding

Welded up

Both sides done. Back view

Passengers side done

Nice work. Exhaust looks killer!
Thank you. I’m getting there with it. Won’t be long before its road worthy. Waiting for rear brakes now. I want a parking brake for it. But it’s on backorder for a few weeks, so I gotta wait. I’ll button up some other stuff until they show up.

Got some more stuff in the mail today. All the cables and parts for the E-brake, hood cable, 2 sets of door switches and the lmc power windows harness.

Just threw the switches on to see where I was at with the drivers door.

While I was in there decided to pull the door lock assembly to clean and lube it up.

Pulled out the regulator to replace the motor.

And look what I found. Someone put a bolt in the regulator where this piece should've been

Since the hole was elongated and I'm not trying to spend more money. I'm gonna fix it myself. Welded the hole up, grinded flat and drilled a new hole.

I placed a washer over the original rivet and welded it on there.

Works like a champ. Put it all back together and all is well. Gonna put the lmc harness on tomorrow

No pictures today. Started wiring up the lmc power kit for the power windows. No need for pictures since there’s a video on it. Put in a new hood cable and pulled apart the passenger door. Passenger door regulator has the same issue with a elongated hole so tomorrow I’ll do the same thing as I did to the drivers side.

Heres the elongated hole

Swapped motors

Also cleaned up the door lock assembly and greased it up. Now it operates smoothly

Installed new locks (no pics), buttoned up wiring harness and door panels. So now both doors open and close smoothly, both windows go and down now, power locks work and I can lock/unlock the truck with a key. Finally some forward progress

Been busy doing other things around the house. But found 10 minutes to replace the door pins. And it was totally worth it and super easy to do.

Old pin

New pin

New pin installed

Old pins. Notice how worn out they were. One had a flat spot it from the door being misaligned

I was told the truck had a 383 in it. But decided to see what I really had and boom. It's a 400 not 383. Pretty happy about that. Guess I'll pull the pan one day to see if 4 bolt or 2 bolt main.

Well there are 2 kinds of 383 sbc that I know of.
The stroker and the screamer.
The 350 with a 400 crank is a stroker, the 400 with a 350 crank is a short stroke screamer.
You might have the latter. :dunno:

Hope not. Lol. It has a external balancer from what I see. So I'm pretty sure it's a 400, could be wrong but I'm not pulling it apart anytime soon to really find out.

Well a stroker would have an external balance since the crank is a 400 but not the other as far as I know I guess you have a 400.
I think a 400 is better than a 383 as long as it's not bored out too big.

Yeah I just confirmed I definitely have a 400 balancer and 400 block. So it’s safe to say it’s a 400.

Pocked up a nice set of torch bottles and all the goods to go with it the other day.

Since I added a torque arm/traction bar I needed to weld the axle housing to the tubes to prevent them from spinning. So i used a rosebud to heat to 400 degrees before welding then slowly allowed them to cool to prevent cracking since the housing is cast.

First pass

Forgot to take a finished pic of it. But it's just multiple passes.

Also decided to rebuild the carb since it wasnt running worth a s---. Found so many things messed up with the carb that I'm just gonna get a new one. But went ahead a rebuilt it to show my son how a carb works and how to rebuild it. Pictures coming later.
