My full conversion

I always ripped those style off and grabbed an 87 or newer model, there is no sleeve and you spin the tierod to adjust.
 
Exactly, not to sure about the hole, its been a while but I think its built into one of the tierod ends.
 
I made this step a few years ago for my lifted f350. And sadly it's almost not big enough for my jimmy lol








Pulled the cover off because I wanted to paint it like the front cover. Also removed the tires to get ready for the new rear brakes.




Whipped out the grinder with a wire wheel again to clean off the cover.

Cover installed and pulled off the old rear brakes





I'll be replacing these rotors and seals soon


 
Look what showed up today. My rear calipers w/ the parking brake provision. I'm gonna wait to install these for a couple days. Still gotta get some rotors and seals for the rear axle.




But we did start messing with the heater core. Heres the new one.





Pulled the glove box to make things easier to access and see





Rather easy to get out. Only 4 bolts, three vacuum hoses, 2 water hoses and one cable.





Of course I ran into some issues separating the housing and broke one of the ears on a flap inside. So I'm done for the night, piled up some liquid nail on it with hopes that itll hold. Gonna let it sit overnight

It didnt hold after letting sit for 24 hours. So heres attempt number two. Used metal epoxy





That actually held pretty good. So now it all back together with a new heater core






Ran outta time today so that's all. Will put the housing back in another day.
 
While I was waiting for the glue that didnt hold to dry we pulled out the old wheel seals. Had to heat them up with a small propane torch. Someone glued them in them.




Pressed out the studs on the hub afterwards





Got my son to press out the studs on the other rotor.




Once again we ran outta time before having to leave for his baseball or my softball games. So I got unfinished stuff laying everywhere again lol.
 
Back at it again this evening.

Rain canceled my softball tournament so got more stuff today. First off I didnt like how the rear disc brake brackets just threaded into the housing. Since the bolts were so long i added a lock washer and nut just to make me feel safer/better.

Secured the brake lines with a hose clamp and wrapped the lines with a piece of hose to prevent cutting them up





Both sides done. For some reason the left side was a tad bit long but itll do.

This is the only way to I'll ever mess with gear oil again. Transfer pumps make it so easy no more squeezing the crap outta the jugs.




Started to install the parking brake cable

Ran into some issues with parking brake setup. The cables are way to short. Pretty sure factory cable with 12" lift dont mix. Wish I would've thought of that before buying them. So I'm gonna source some custom length cables from somewhere.
 
Next on the to-do list was replace the shocks




Rear shocks done and tires put back on.



Time to weld the front shock bracket back on.

For some reason I forgot to snap a photo of the front shocks being done. But it was time for a cruise around the yard. Heres some photos of the "beast"







So glad I added the shackle flip. Now the truck sits level and looks so much better.












And the day wouldnt be complete without something bad happening. First the brand new starter fried, then the battery had a bad cell or two and wouldnt charge. So a quick run to the parts store and all that was fixed pretty quick only to have the starter wire melt against the header and catch fire. Soooo I called it a day. Timing needs to be set again, it just doesnt run right. But that'll happen another day
 
Tinkered with it some today to see what i did. While I was down there snapped a pic of the shock mount that I forgot to do the other day.





Heres the cause of the fire. Starter wire was laying against the header (you can see where it happened on the header)





New starter wire. This time I used some straps to hold the wire away from the exhaust





After installing the wire and starting it up. It still pops thru the carb no matter where I set the timing at. So I'm gonna get some new plugs and wires and try again later
 
Maybe a wire is on the wrong plug. Or cap is set wrong. You will find it. Projects are easier when you can call it a day, regroup and start again later.

You have a shackle flip AND blocks! Was just thinking to myself a flip would help. Now I understand the angled block too. :)

After calling it a night, I sat back and was thinking about what could be wrong or what I changed to make it run differently. I believe it's the hose I hooked up to the valve cover for the PVC valve. I added that after installing the new carb. If the PVC valve was bad it could make the motor run lean and explain the popping thru the carb. So I'll be getting a new pvc valve, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Its needs a tune up anyways.

Also peeked inside the valve cover and seen some roller rockers. So that's a bonus
 
Two steps forward 20 steps back. Truck started running rough again. Could hear the valvetrain making alot of noise. So I pulled the valve covers.




So it has nice roller rockers





Every single rocker was loose. So pulled cylinder #1 lifter. Its toast






Pulled the rest to see how bad it is. Might have 4-5 good lifters




Well its time to pull the oil pan and see how bad it really is. Might have to rebuild the motor, or might be able to flush it with trans fluid. We'll see after I pull the main bearing caps
