my holley sniper story from the start --- UPDATE : the story END'S NOW !

wasnt trying to start a fight with him just stating the facts was all since he like to tell you go spend your money and just put a new one in your self .

someone got butt hurt on the holley forum tonight . as per his norm danny just posts links or copy past info . he posted the basic here use this sensor to replace yours .

i replyed back and told him no thanks i already know this as you have posted it before . and i started this thread to do a real parts / system test to pin point the problem and NOT just replace parts for the hell of it .

he removed his post and removed my reply post to his . . . WOW :dunno::surepal:

he posted up in another thread the same way and the guys called him out and said no thanks we got this with the other members and dont need your help ! his reaction was great :rotfl::rotfl:

its nice to see mister smart a$$ get his corporate :poo: flung back at him :deal: . . . he would be so bad if he wasnt so RUDE in the way he types / talks to people .

so i tested the coolant temp system aspr the guys on the forum said and you guessed it my results were NOT normal . the mod danny said he he has never seen one show low errr always a -40 temp and it would show a high # for a few sec if jumper wires but not stay solid with a # all the time .

so it sounds like i have a new bug to figure out . and i have been fallowing the F-B sniper page and there is a good amount to notice of coments on how people are getting tired of the problems and 1 guy said maybe we should all get together for a class action law suit . . .

and one guys said the self tuning was NOT the whole unit just a fuel table only . YOU still need to do your own tuning for the rest . little chunk of the long story from the big post and lots of comments . " .It’s not going to self learn coolant or IAT tables. You have to adjust those yourself. All it does is adjust the main fuel map. That’s it. "

After seeing all this about the sniper makes me real worried about their other stuff..
this keeps eeeking me toward the MegaSquirt mainly because there are so many people using it.. prob is there is no real plug and play version..

I love my mega squirt. It IS definitely diy though. I have built and installed half a dozen or so. Boosted and n/a. They do have prebuilt LS stuff nowadays but they’re pricey. I like building them custom to my wants.

So, I’ve sort of followed along but didn’t have anything constructive to add. I still don’t have anything to help, but thought you might enjoy this anecdote.

I’ve mentioned a couple times that I have some friends that build completely insane cars and have done so for quite some time. I actually worked with them for a stint before trading that life for a suit and tie. I sent one of the builders a text this evening asking how many of these Snipers they’ve installed. He immediately called me. Before I could even say hello he proceeded to tell me “You don’t want that.” and then continued to list all the problems they’ve had with installs. The first was about two years ago and took a crazy long time to get right. I think there was a rant about sensitivity to interference. He then went into a rant about how the tech support staff were morons and don’t know as much about their product as they should. He mentioned some specific gripes about them, but I don’t remember as he was starting to lose me. I tried to stop him at multiple points, but he kept talking. I think next was how they won’t install them anymore and steer customers on a budget toward a MSD product. He said it’s crazy how much better the MSD support staff was compared to Holley even though it’s the same company. He did mention that they’ve been able to resolve every issue with the Holley and the learning all worked as stated. He did say that it takes a lot of miles for it to be good, and they just prefer to tune them on the dyno. I stopped him and said that I was just curious and that I didn’t need one. He did concede that there were pluses and minuses to both the Holley and the MSD. We shifted the conversation to other stuff.

Take it for what it’s worth, but these guys have built some ridiculous cars over the last fifteen plus years. He didn’t seem too happy with them.

if you could see my level of anger and frustration in person i think you would leave my shop until i cooled down . if i ever go to a show and see there tent setup it will be fun to watch .

After all the complaints I have read about aftermarket injection systems, I am glad I stuck with my modified factory GM TBI unit. I wonder how it is that GM was able to turn out millions of TBI computer controlled units that function for hundreds of thousands of miles without a problem, but Holley, Edelbrock, and all the others cannot even put out a few dozen computer controled injection systems that do not have a bunch of problems right out of the box?

i have already looked in to swapping back to this setup .

GM and others spent millions research and development Holley, msd, and Fitech slaped it together and said looks good ship it!

Well for one, gm built a tbi for one engine. Then built that same engine over and over. These aftermarket units have to go on to all different kinds of engines. That they don't know the specs of, intake, exhaust, heads, cam, etc, etc. The tuning has to be able to deal with all of those factors.

another thing i have noticed is this sniper DRINKS fuel over my old tbi unit . . . . 20gal tank and stock gauge just wont stay still hardly . under 500 miles and i have done prob 4-5 tanks of fuel already .

So couple of observations looking at what you sent me:

1) I didn't use a different tune, I made the sniper learn it.
12.5 wide open
13.5 idle
14.0 cruise
until I lost the pump, I actually think this was pretty close. The plugs looked ok at that point

2) The AFR and RPM seems to "saw" up and down a lot. I'd be guessing you have either air leak or other issues near the O2 sensor or some mine RFI

3) running coolant enrichment between 110-105% out to 300+ seconds. Either it is still cold in temps of water temp, or thinks that it is

mine finally got "clean" running at about 500 miles. some days it was good, some days it would blip

I might be tempted to return to the factory tune and make it learn
