My New Toy

So I'm on my second tank, 21 mpg I can deal with that. The no power steering is a pain hard to steer, shift, and talk on the phone

Nice. That's about what my Tracker gets.

I believe the power steering stuff is all bolt on.
I remember a friend of mine upgraded his SFA Toyota's steering gear with IFS components. Not sure how that worked though.

So bought another 4runner last night. Paid $100 for it he didn't have change only wanted $80, it has the tilt wheel that I want and the passenger seat that works right. Even has the rear window switch that I just bought off of e-bay for $37 that now I get to sell :doah:

So anybody need a 4runner shell

Im going to pull the doors and top it has tinted windows :waytogo: mine doesn't

maybe turn the doors into half doors and run them in the summer.

he even had a tip over meter thing he wanted to keep it but I talked him out of it cost me a Benny but since they go for double that I think I did alright

Nice. Any 4Runner for $100 here would be an empty shell composed mostly of mud and rust.

So I found out the my runner was missing alot more then I had thought. Got a rear window washer bag. A mount for the factory jack and handle and stuff. A rear seat ashtray. Rear seats that lock when they are upright, with carpet attached. Seats are brown and tan carpet is brown but hey it works. Going to make some side panels out of something try and keep the noise down a bit.

Got the doors hood and top off other the 4runner. As well as the steering wheel and some misc. switches and stuff. Cut the roof off and the whole front clip doing the sides next small enough that is fits into my scrap holding trailer.

Once this all cleaned up its mount time for the diesel trans, then on to burb mods. :woot:

Took the scrap trailer to the scrap yard full of the 4runner, made $174 not bad, spent $200 got all the parts I wanted and more sold the remains made the $174, So in reality spent $26

that's recyceling at it's best.........a real "cash for clunkers"....

great score on the truck too.

So you still getting about the same mileage? I have some cash sitting here and I want to get another 4x4 so I can take Krusty offline for major work. Thinking one of these would be the perfect little DD for me if I can keep the mileage around 20 it will be slightly better than the Safari. No I am not buying yours, but there are a couple I have seen that are right in the price range and a bit ugly but running.

I am still getting 20 actually got 20.6 last tank, I have a friend who is selling his he wants $1000 for it about the same shape as but has some rust. He is on CK5 but not very often lives up in Tremonton

I sold the fender hood and doors for $60 so made $30 and got to keep all the parts that I wanted from the parts 4runner

I haven't decided what I am going to do. I could use a real truck, but it would have to be extended cab, an SUV would work but won't be able to haul stuff, and any 4 cylinder is out since while they might get good mileage they can't really tow my trailer.

I am, but since I am also using this to allow me to take Krusty offline for major work, I need something that does a bit more. I am willing to sacrifice a bit on fuel mileage, but I am not giving up camping and other things. I just don't know if the 22re can handle towing a 2k trailer with 5 people loaded up plus camping stuff. I don't think it would, but I could be wrong.

Wouldn't be fast...but I bet it'd do it.
Too many hills around here. Krusty barely notices it, but the 22re is too weak. Hell when I drive my Dad's 90 Toy pickup I have to shift to 4th if the wind blows or I go up any incline. I would hate to imagine what it would be like with another 500 lbs in the truck and a 2k+ lb trailer on the back. The idea of getting killed on the freeway just doesn't sound appealing.

Well are you looking for a rig that gets good gas mileage or something that you can tow your trailer and haul your family in comfortably. Cuz one is going to suffer

I can eat the mileage a bit, but no way I can go without the ability to tow and haul the family, although I said nothing about them being comfortable:grin:. Problem is I want it to be able to take over when the Blazer is offline for a body swap and axle swap and other major stuff that will take time. Right now with only 2 vehicles, if I want to do that work or if something breaks down, we are screwed. So having multiple purposes would be a good thing.
