My "Official" Stepside Restoration Thread and LS Swap 2021

ya really aren't supposed to weld it all the way around... stress riser concerns....

ORD's comes with a drawing of where to weld... it's like sections of 2" or 3" with gaps of a couple inches in between... there are a couple of older threads around that are extensive on this... and the drawing iirc.... i have it somewhere, suppose i could take a pic of it...

Its to ad you didn't live closer I can do that bed mint. I love spraying im gonna be painting my truck myself. But once you get the hang of it its all second nature.

Ya oh well... Its not like I spent $150 on the gun, $50 on the new tip, $80 for a sander, and $350ish for paint.

Oh wait I did... :doah:

Just my 2 cents, but I would skip the JR carb, and go with a 625 road demon.

Also, MAKE SURE you put in spring loaded needles/seats. I had mine stall out in the middle of a hole bc it was bouncing too much.

Good feeling seeing that fresh metal on the stand isn't it!?!?!:D:D

Id go TBI, but its a whole different thing to deal with compared to a carb. I kinda miss being able to tweak and tune the carb though.

I wish my block came back that nice, what did all that cost you?

Well the way I see it, this carb is based off the Holley 4160 which I have been running with amazing results. Only thing is that my current 600cfm carb is going to be too small. Also the price is still much cheaper than a Truck Avenger. I'd like to stay single feed just for the milage and the reliability of the carb. Spring loaded needle seats are a must for any carb I get, they make a night and day difference in performance/reliabilty.

If I was planning on going fuel injection I would have gone the GenIII 6.0L route. The only reason I started building this newer style block is because it sorta just fell into my hands and my 305 smokes and ticks a little so I said "might as well" ;):doah:

The total cost came to $550 for all that work. Well worth the $$.
