My "Official" Stepside Restoration Thread and LS Swap 2021

Just noticed that myself, looks kinda close though. Wonder if they are adaptable to the late 80'?

You better get pictures front and back of the gauges in that bezel. I’m curious on how it all goes together. I may buy that same kit.

just 73-80?

Don't worry there will be lots of pics.

As far as 73-80, I doubt it makes a difference. If it does then I just wasted $140 because my dash is the 80s style... I don't think there's a difference that matters enough that I can't massage it to fit.

Got an ETA for this project?

I still have one more order to complete from summit before i can have everything ready to go in.

But once i get my hubs I will go wheelin with my schools club for a week or two then we're at Halloween and lets face it I'll be partyin all weekend. plus I work weekends so realistically you won't see any major work done until the start of November . Maybe I can get something done sooner... but i am starting to run low on $$... then I need to think about xmas... then I'll be working full time again over my winter break... wow i'm pretty busy... :eek1:

Plus at this point I've come to realize that I hate driving my S10 even though its saving me a fortune in gas $$. I hate it so much that when I drive it I beat the piss out of it. I would be much happier with it if it had some balls. My stepside was my first car I drove so starting out on an enormous truck with decent grunt has gotten me too used feeling justified for driving like a Masshole... If I could put a V8 into the s10 for under $1K and still get upper teens for milage then I'd do it and I'd be happy... :doah::crazy:

I know what you mean. Since the rear end went on my blazer, I'm driving a '94 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 196,000mi. straight six. 22mpg on a good day, but no testicles. I will say the on-road manners with studded snows are great, but I can't get out of my own way while driving it. Though the cassette deck does let me listen to alot of my beer and mud soaked 80's hair band tapes from high school!:saweet::cool:

More Parts!

Woot!!

What fun is it to have it if you never wheel it? Looks like you had a good time, that's what really matters.

Finally the truck is revived from its swim

Finally got every fluid changed and the headers buttoned up with new gaskets and tuned the engine and got the choke working propperly for the colder weather. Then I go to drive back to school for the week and bam, the starter goes . I guess thats why I have 2 trucks. So I went home today to vote and while I was home I replaced the starter, gotta love autozone lifetime warenty :deal:. So I swaped the starter and now the I wanna say that the truck has now fully recovered from its bath... almost...

I still have a tick that sounds like an exhaust leak, but I'm not sure if it is. The tick is coming from the passenger side and its pissing me off. Although I am getting more power and better milage, which i mostly noticable on the highway since its mostly upper rpm.

Also i found out how I got so much water into everything. My breather hose popped out of the t-case so since i have everything tied together everything just filled up. :doah:I guess my j.b. weld didn't hold... :doah:

Ok here's some pictures:

Woot New Heater Core!!

New heater core is in! And guess what, I got carried away again with some rattle cans...
Sorry I only have after pics:

I was very happy to find that all the crust looking stuff still on the fire wall isn't hiding rot, its just old undercoating. So I had to paint it and make it look good.

I had to cut the bottom 3 or 4" of insulation out because it was saturated in coolant, mud, and still smelled like dirty pond water. Also I found an old mouse nest in the ducking just after the fan. Fan blows much harder now... lol

This is the result of aftermarket fenders and 2 years of offroading. The driver side is perfect, just the passenger side some spot welds popped and now i have that big crack.

I got a little carried away with some gloss rustolium and clear coat. Looks pretty tit doesn't it. :D
