My "Official" Stepside Restoration Thread and LS Swap 2021

I'm lost, should I be putting orings on my distributor?

Does my Pertronix distributor have those grovoes?

Ummm
Yeah, I don't read instructions, I just guess.
So nope, no chamferring was done and I doubt it's oversized.
I don't know LMAO
Couldn't figure out why I had low oil pressure but never really had a problem with it.
Thought I forgot to install the "needed" O-rings. Put them on, slammed it home, and now I have respectable oil pressure.
I haven't taken it out since, so I don't know what the O-rings are gunna look like.

:D

Beags is correct, no grooves, no o-rings for you.

I'm curious, did you change anything else at all at that time, or have the intake or anything else off, or you just removed and reinstalled the distributor with said o-rings and the issue was fixed? Did it sit any deeper than before? ;)

I changed the oil tonight and there wasn't much of any metal to speak of in the oil or in the filter :waytogo:

I did find some debris in the filter likely from my intake swap last year. But really no metal steel, iron, or bearing material. The oil definitely needed to be changed, over a year old now and 2k miles on it. (I change my oil once a year, I never actually hit the 3k mile mark during the season) I put in some new Valvoline 10w40 because I already had it on the shelf. At least I upgraded the filter from an AC Delco to a Wix filter.

Here is the old Delco filter with some of the debris I mentioned earlier:

I strained the contents of the oil filter through a paper towel. Looks like oil to me:

The only place I saw some metal flakes when I first opened the oil filter:

Ran a magnet through the oil and this is what I got:

That's quite a bit of debris in that first pic, but if you know where its from then you are probably ok.

Do you have another gauge you can hook up to test the current readings?

Or it may be easier to try a different oil, especially if this is only an issue when the oil is hot? I've seen 10W-40 flash to over 300 degrees from one dyno pull.

SO after a drive today I'm thinking that I still have a problem. Watch the video to see the oil pressure drop as the rpms increase rapidly with acceleration. The first few seconds is what you're looking for. And sorry ahead of time it's super shaky even with stabilization.

Now I'm wondering if my oil pick up might be partially blocked or loose. I'm thinking I need to drop the pan to have a look. :doah:
Oh and the rear main is weeping too.

Video didn't play for me.

But it sounds like you're having a starvation issue. The oil pickup could be clogged with debris from the intake swap. Especially with how much was in the filter.

I think it's safe to say you found the problem! Was it tacked on and the tack weld broke?

My plan is to put on this Summit Racing brand deeper sump oil pan. I was never happy with the cheapo o Chinese oil pan I put on it when I built the engine so might as well upgrade to a deeper sump with an oil scrapper and improved baffling.
