My old man hotrod/dd

Nice car! Some day I want to build a sleeper four door car like an old nova or something I can fit all the kiddos in and go cruise!

I had a 74 Monte...454/T400 car...great "personal luxury" car...a nice solid car, and heavy....had them swivel buckets in it. A great idea I thought!

I bought a black '74 Monte Carlo off a garage customer when I worked at a parts store back around 1989--belonged to his brother--it had a 454 and a TH400,I bought it for the motor, but should never have cannibalized it,the car had swivel buckets, wasn't real rusty or rotted, and my dad loved the seats, having Parkinson's he had a tough time getting in & out of cars...paid only 500 bucks for it too..

When I drove the car home,I said to myself ,"Its a shame to use it only for parts"...if the drive was longer,I probably would have changed my mind about parting it out.
I never registered it,it sat in the yard about a year, then I pulled the motor,I ended up trading that for a better '73 454 my brother had that had a fresh valve job..the Monte motor had non foulers on the rear plugs, but it didn't smoke, knock or tick..

It ended up being used as an ice racer ,one of my older brothers friends bought it off me for almost what I paid for it..
Another entry in my book of "stupid moves" from the past..:doah:..

Seeing this Malibu is just reinforcing the idea I've had for a while to let my burb go and get a big body family cruiser...... I haven't 4 wheel'd on any road the wife's minivan couldn't handle in so long I can't remember:doah:..... may be time for a hoopty cruiser like this one so the youngest can grow up with a hotrod in the family:burnout:

You should never sell anything, just add more.

Wow,I like that,the 2.73's would make for a great hi-speed cruiser!!!

Ya but it makes for a dog at the stop light. I think 3.23s will a nice compromise.

Worked the afternoon on the ac. Pulled the compressor because I was told it was locked up. Pulled it off for to replace it with one that came with the car. I was swapping rear compressor plates because the stock one had a temp switch. Upon removing it the compressor broke free. Since it looked so much nicer than the re placement I bolted it back together, ran some new oil though it a couple times and put it back on. After Driving 30 miles to get the proper belts (we won't talk about napa and the belts they sold me) I got it all together only to find out the clutch plate is shot on the original compressor. I bought a cheap puller set and hope I can pull the plate off my spare compressor.

I wanted an ac belt, they gave me a belt, for what idk.

Sweet looking car. My mom had one as a first car. Don't see many in that good of shape.

So I waited all week on my ac clutch tool from Amazon too wreck it in 1.5 clutch pulls. Neat. It is a puller installer so instead of using a nice pusher to set the air gap I used the much more accurate sideways ball peen hammer. Ok so on the positive or kinda positive. I wanted to try 152a because it is cheap, and hopefully won't be going away like 134a. I hoped because it is environmentally safe to have a leak I could get buy with all old hoses and factory system. What is 152a? We know it as "canned air" or "keyboard duster". Obviously since it is acceptable to release it directly to the atmosphere I don't have to feel guilty if my system needs charging every spring. So tonight after installing the clutch I finished filling the system. It took 3.5 ish cans but they are thin so they leak with the can side puncture tap. After putting in all the cans I had it was honestly cooling ok. Still bubbles in the window. I had a small leak and think I didn't get all the air out. So tomorrow I am going to restart and suck the system down and try again. Still sitting in the driveway with the windows up it was nice and cool inside and hot and sticky outside. I think it is cool beause it is working in a system that works poorly with 134a. We will see if it works better tomorrow.
