This is the VT I was talking about that seemed to make my Buick 1/4 as loud as the straight-through. It's like Ultra-flo, but with the valve at the end. They are available with different "HP" ratings for different spring rates. I'm sure there is some restriction - never found any data. Being loud at WOT isn't a problem, it's a feature, IMO.
On the BBK you have to use a wrench to adjust it. That can be a PITA to get underneath 2 mufflers plus I could see that bolt/nut getting harder to turn over time from heat/corrosion.
