Name this winch??? Rebuilding a Vic Hickey Sidewinder

Friend of mine over in Illinois has one or two of them, pretty cool to have on an old truck nice score!

I had one on my '79 K10, had to go through it to get it working though, rebuilt motor and new solenoids.

Took in off the truck last week. I got it sitting on my bench in the garage. I was thinking I should have a quick look just for fun....

Take a ton of pics when you tear it down to clean and grease it. The lack of literature out there on that winch will make it tough to know where things to go if you don't document it as you go.

I remember one of the ads that showed a 1st gen Blazer hanging from a tree via a Sidewinder. That was when a 1st gen Blazer was new.

This is where i'm at.

First pic is the ring gear it's stuck on the shaft, I haven't been able the get that off yet!

Second pic is of a crack in the housing, that will need to be welded.

And the motor is froze solid too.

watch cutting the cable off it will spring out and fly around a little bit .

and that style motor looks about like the older ramsey worm gear winches . . . so looks for a replacement for one of them and check bolt pattern and shaft size and stick out . you might get lucky with that .

take the aluminum cover to someone who can TIG weld it . don't waste your time with spool gun weld on this repair .

Do the Hutterites have an aluminum welder?

They do ,But i'm going to get Colby to take it to school and see if his teacher would be interested!?

If not Dan knows a guy in Lacombe that is real good.

You aren't set up for it are you?
