National Get together of K-5s (EAST Coast) July 2007 UPDATED 4-10-07!

OK I think we have two spots picked. How are they for stockers with running boards? I read about the trees and needing flags on truck...

The film (?) is a 15 min thing and is just and insurance thing. As with both you give them liability waivers so no biggie. You guys seem to go there a lot so what are the facilities like? Restrooms places to grill, tables, on site food? Are there restaurants close do they charge to leave and come back in on same day?

I would remove running boards just to be safe. Neither have real facilities so if you camp there you are roughing it. Both have camp grounds close by though. Both have stuff close by but not much on site. I know you can go in and out of RC as needed but not sure about PAP.

Do either offroad parks have campground areas for primitive tent camping? or spots to pullover and camp in the back of the truck? Or will i be required to leave the property after dark? And i will be leaving my bars on to act as rock guards =P,

And yes, Do they have ANY type of public restrooms? Portapottys? Please specify if you know. If they dont have real buildings ill be bringing a potty-tent for my truck.

Is there alot of steep hills? My truck is on 35s and 3.73 so i cant climb too hard.

What about CB antenna, Will any trees be stealing a 102 mounted on the bumper? Or should i take a Lil Wil antenna?

Is there a garage or Advance on-property?! :haha:

Does RC monitor any CB channel? Paragon does. 5 i think.
Are the trails at paragon or RC two-way? Like if one of us finds something we know we cant cross, we can turn back?

Will the staff help to free a stuck vehicle, tow, or recover?
Can we wheel 24/7, or is there a closing time?

I think thats all on my mind right now, Thanks for what info you may have =)

I know RC has primitive camping and I think PAP does too. RC has a port a jon by the office. My wife camped on RC property 3 years ago with a few other women.

Read above.

I have 37's and 4:10's and have no problems in 4 low. I think you will be fine because we get to choose the trails.

Just to be safe use a shorter one.

PAP no. RC has no garage but you can wrench as long as needed and does have a welder and some other assorted stuff in the trailer that can be used.

Lynn can moniter a CB channel at RC but I prefer to just hit my cell and call her. Even up at PAP there are a lot of areas we could not contact them on the CB.

Will the staff help to free a stuck vehicle, tow, or recover?

RC will help if needed. Hell I took Lynn's Jeep already to extract a friends truck. At PAP if they help they will just drag you out to the staging area and they don't really care about damage. They both have a closing time but you can arrange night wheeling. If you are at RC and camping on the property you can wheel untill dark and let them know you will run at night. Not totally sure on PAP but I know if you are late getting out they will fine you. It cost a friend of mine $75 for being an hour late getting out because he was broke and the PAP staff knew an hour before closing he was going to be late.

I think thats all on my mind right now, Thanks for what info you may have =)

Like I said, both have great wheeling. I do prefer going to RC over PAP but that is my personal choise. RC is just more laid back. Plus being friends with the owners/operators helps.

Give us more info on why you feel that RC is a better place besides you know the owners. Is it cooler site as far as how they treat the general public. Like if we are camping and some one wants to have a few beers can they? Do you have any pics of the camping area at RC?

What about a camp fire at RC do they have a fire pit at camping area?

If we get this together would RC be willing to get a second porta pot as if we have 20 rigs and there spouses you know how women can be.....

What about drinking water at RC?

I am a retired cop and was a first responder so I have to ask. What kind of medical response is near to RC if someone gets their head up their arse and gets hurt?

Just trying to make this happen!

More good questions, Sorry to bomb you with them.

Yeah, we would definetly need a second portapotty, or a john-tent like were bringing. My mother would be coming along, And the trails get to her fast. As im sure its the same with many women.

Drinking water, I dont know, Hopefully they have some sort of mini-consession stand/building. If not we may be able to load up some bottled water(5gal) and haul it up.

Give me a few days and I will work on getting somebody from RC to chime in on this post. That should make things easier. Also work on getting your questions in order, that will make it easier. I will answer what I can untill then and also you can look on their website for answers.

It is just my choise. I like the laid back attitude, if I bust something I know I will not get a fine for being late getting out. If I am camping there all I need to do is let the staff know what my plans are. You can drink in the camping areas but once you crack open the first one you are done wheeling for the day. I'll see if I can come up with pics.

You can have a fire as long as there is not any burn ban.

20, is that it??? I was thinking no less then 50.:D

What about drinking water at RC?

Bring your coolers.

If it is really bad they go to the hospital. RC staff will have more on that. Everybody who wheels should have a basic med kit.

Just trying to make this happen!

I do primitive camping with my wife and 3 kids with no problems. We pack a few gallons of water just for cleaning up. If people prefer not to camp, either at the park or campground, there are hotels in the area.

Still working on it? YES I had a serious family emergency happen but still planning.

Other questions? Yes I am making a list and plan on really going over their web site before hand. I will try to get questions ready tonight when I come back from Hospital.

Oh, sorry to hear, Hope everythings well!!

And awesome, I guess now would be the time to add a few questions

Is a Virginia learners permit valid at Rausch Creek? I know its not valid on the public roads out of Virginia, but would the owners accept it? Waivers would not be a problem! (Get my license end of march 07), Want to know incase for some reason i don't get it by the time of trip.

Does the rig have to be street legal? Shouldn't be a problem..
How bad are the ticks and mosquito's up there around spring? If I'm going to be wheeling topless i need to know if i should bring some deet.

How big is the camping area? Like if one tent per K5?
Is there any part of the trail that goes cliff side or semi-cliff side, and is slanted towards the cliff?

Finally, How is the cell phone service? I have Alltel, Any reports? Should i buy an external antenna? (CB is running 27 watts so I'm not sure that would be a good idea)

Figured id add them to the list, not gonna find em on their website though

THANKS!

I have a better idea. I will start a thread on RC's forum and we can put everything there. Sound good?????????

I'd be up for anything in PA but AK is definitely not even a possibility. I'd have to take out a second mortgage on my house just for gas money.

OK here we go these are questions we (old lady and I) came up with.

1.)What are the length of the trails by class and are they Bigger rig friendly?

2.)Admission says everyone has to buy a membership (good for a year) $10.00 plus $25.00 for vehicle and driver then $5.00 per adult in vehicle = $40.00 for one truck and two people in it. Any discounts available? (out of state people)

3.)Could they make a dash plaque with out the Jeep that just says K-5/ 2006? since they have one already if we got 50 reservations?

4.) What is the status of the new area on east you talked about in March of 2006? The green (scenic?) route?

5.) What type of mining was done on the property? Any mine shafts the kids might fall into?

6.) Four Wheeler Magazine rated you 1 of the top 10 "Great escapes & destinations" What makes you this keeping in mind most of the people will be from out the state?

7.) We noticed a lot of Jeeps in the photo gallery so are most of your client base Jeeps? If not what other types frequent your site?

8.) How do the full size rigs do on the trails for tree and rock damage?

9.) If needed how hard is it to get a tow truck to your site to tow a vehicle to a repair shop?

10.) What types of wild life are likely to be encountered while on your site camping?

11.) Do you have any way of cleaning up if someone gets extremely dirty with mud? (wife????)

12.) what size are the camping areas (average dome tent)?

13.) What else is there to do in the area in case some spouses/ other halves get bored?

14.) What Motel/Hotels are close?

15.) Are there any auto parts stores close in case someone needs a part?

16.) What types of payment do you accept?

17.) How far away is a major store like Walmart or Meijers for food or clothing?

18.) How is the Cell phone and car radio reception? What type of stations come in clear (ie:Classic rock, Rap, Country)?

I am sure there will be more questions

My others have been answered or i found the answer,or listed above..
So heres my questions that remain-

1
How bad are the ticks and mosquito's up there around spring? If I'm going to be wheeling topless i need to know if i should bring some deet.

2
Is a Virginia learners permit valid at Rausch Creek? I know its not valid on the public roads out of Virginia, but would the owners accept it? Waivers would not be a problem! (Get my license end of march 07), Want to know incase for some reason i don't get it by the time of trip.

Also@ medtrodps Any mine shafts the kids might fall into?, Thats what leashes are for!

Also, i think i answered the payment question
"We do not accept credit cards (cash or check only)."
From the FAQ =)

And i think it answerd the hotel thing too -

"Where can I stay overnight or stock up? The nearest gas station is at Exit 104 (Exxon station, Ravine exit). There is a full service restaurant there and a quick-mart. The nearest full-service campgrounds can be found at Exit 104 (Echo Valley) or at Exit 112 (Camp-A-While). Hotels can be found at Exit 100. For more information, visit our Directions section."

RC and PAP

Alright I'm in as the Jimmy should be done by then. I like PAP as I have not done RC yet. How about Memorial Day, long weekend, could do both parks!!

I've heard of a Spa in the area for the Ladies, we could smash our bodies and they could work on their bodies all day. I know my wife would be for it as the only mud she likes is on her face, and not from a mud pit.

Size of the veh. should not matter as we went with a full size International, he made it, and is longer than us.

Contact Pa. Dept. of Tourism and they can help us out with attractions in the area. Great area to cruise.

I'm sure my 3 sons will go, so that's 4. They have J**ps, are they allowed?
