Ok, here is my 2 cent worth of opinion. I have had the gas cap problem in the past. The vapor lock may not be in the fuel lines but possibly you may be experiencing fuel boiling in the carb. I am having that problem now with a 1981 Blazer with stock intake and a spacer under the carb. I suspect the intake does not have the heat passage blocked off.
