Need help finding my Blazer

tires / wheels / lift and small rewire = NOT 4300 unless he paid crazy shop prices ..

but you have 1 big problem. your heart is in the equasion. its not just a blazer / fun toy to you so its worth more to you and this makes it the gray area.

but then again its a rust free vehicle by the pics basicly so that in its self is worth a bit of cash.
 
I think it's a fair price considering the condition...and you have one of the best stories to go along with it. If he put a For Sale sign on it for that price, he'd have it sold in a couple days. You might haggle a little but if doesn't have to or really want to sell it he won't move.

What are the prices of similar models in same condition?
 
Here's the way I look at it, if it's rust free, runs perfect, ALL options work, and it needs no repairs, then it's fair price. If any of those conditions aren't met then the price has to come down accordingly... Could you duplicate this truck as it sits for that amount of money? Probably not.
Could he have put $4300 into it? Very easily! He's had it over ten years, it has been modified as well as repaired over those years. I've had mine for 6 years and have almost $9000 in mine if I add up every nickel and dime I've put into it... Let's not forget, the balls in his court. He has a truck that he isn't looking to sell, that you want to buy. Just looking at the pics it appears to have had alot of work. Look how clean that frame looks in the one picture. Granted, pictures always look better than in person, but it looks like he has put a lot of money and hard work into that old blazer.
I started with a low mileage, $1300 rusty blazer 6 years ago, and I'm way beyond what he quoted you, so to me it's not that bad of a deal... Would he have some trouble selling it for that price? Probably, but it might go for close to that cleaned up and listed on eBay. The question is, is it as nice as the pictures? The other side of this is, he would probably need to replace this vehicle, it looks like he tows with it. So why would he just give it away? He probably has a little wiggle room at that price, but be careful not to tick him off if you really want to buy it.
 
I started with a high mileage, non-rusty Blazer that leaked on the other side of the country that I paid $1800 for two years ago and I'm over that now. How much over I don't want to think about.




My only question...we need some specs. What the truck is, what it has, what has been done, who's lift kit, has anything been beefed/worked on, what's wrong with it, etc etc etc.

If it's solid and in good shape then yeah, it's probably worth that.

If those 6 lug axles (probably the original 10 bolts I'm betting) have 3.08 gears then big block or not it's going to SUCK turning those 35's.

Trans slipping?

Leaks?

New hidden rust?

****ty repairs?

Cracked frame at the steering box?

Windows, locks, cruise, AC, heat, rear window, whatever doesn't work?

Etc etc etc.


It might be YOUR Blazer but he still owns it and if you immediately have to put thousands more into it to make it the way you want it then it's not such a deal.
 
His Location is right between a huge USMC Airbase and the entire 2nd Marine Division 25minutes south at Camp Lejeune.

Around here, If he listed that thing for 8k it would be gone in half a second. Its a good looking, lifted truck with a big V8. To some young Marine with money that = SOLD.

Plus I may or may not have had an upclose look at the truck:whistle:
 
Personally I think mattrains needs to retain scottish's services again and have him go oogle it on an official visit. Find out the good, bad, and the fugly.

I'm hoping this thing is all that and a bag of Fritos for you mattrains.
However I did notice the "before" picture and the "after" picture both have rough, faded, peeling paint on the roof. Granted mine has similar issues after 2 years but I'm lazy and will fix it when I repaint the truck. However what else has he ignored/neglected/not noticed?

Hmmmm maybe I should buy a couple and make a trip :D

I am on the other side of the country but that thing would sit and sit and sit and sit and sit and sit for that price around here.

I would offer him 5 for it. See what he says.

But if what others say is true and you really want it back and now he knows that, he pretty much is in charge of the price.

I would say x2 on this, especially if you have cash in hand. More times than not, being there in person with cash in hands talks. Who knows, you may haggle a bit and end up at $5500-$6000. Still not a bad price at $6500 (provided everything is in working order) but something off the top is better than nothing.
 
So here is where I am now. I wanted more than anything to post a video or some pictures of me with the Blazer and telling this awesome story about how I got it back BUT here's reality.

I know he's not trying to rip me off and I know it's a pretty good deal. It's nothing like the deal he paid $2,200 for it 3 months ago but I still know I would be buying under "special" circumstances.

$6,500 is just hard to chew considering what I want to do with the Blazer once I get it back. My plans were to paint it and restore it back from inside to out. An initial investment of 6,500 with everything I want to do would put me into the stupid investment range instead of fun investment (I have to tell myself it's an investment).

I'm sure it's hard to understand how I could pass it up after i've finally found it but I think one day down the road; now that I know where it is; i'll be able to find it at a steal and get it so one day I can restore it the way I want to.

I've waited this long, what's a few more years???

I definitely didn't want to end this thread this way... :-(
 
Darn, that sucks, keep track of it I guess, and let the owner know that if he ever wants to sell it to give you a shout first!
 
if he wants to sell it for what he keeps puttting in it then the longer you wait the higher he is gonna go in price!
 
I don't know about that particular year model, but I was ready to pay $5500 for my 1974, ended up getting it for $4300 because there was damage after the initial photos I was sent.

Since that time I have easily spent $4000 on it...tools...supplies and stuff...wheels, sandblasting...

I doubt that there is person on this forum that can restore one to as clean as that without being in the $8000 - $10,000 range and that's not including your time...that's free...

What's your ideal price....what do you want to pay for it? What's it worth to you? Will you be double regretting not getting it 3 years from now?

Honestly $6500 sounds way high IMO. I know there's the whole "you couldn't build it for that price" crowd, but just because he put 4 grand into the truck doesn't make it worth 4 grand more than he payed for it...not to mention like Brett said that'd better be top quality parts and all professional work for him to even have spent as much as he did. Heck, I've dumped almost 2 grand into my POS 'Burb and I'd be hard pressed to keep a straight face asking even that much for it.

Maybe it's just my area but for the most part K5s are going for about half what he's asking and a lot of them still come with lift and tires. For that price you could probably do what AJMBLAZER did and still come out ahead.

make sure he knows that you feel this way. first off, the fact that you're willing to wait, lets him know to come down in price, maybe back into your range. second, you want to make sure that when he decides to just unload it, he calls you first.

there's still a chance. :thumb:
