Need help finding my Blazer

So here is where I am now. I wanted more than anything to post a video or some pictures of me with the Blazer and telling this awesome story about how I got it back BUT here's reality.

I know he's not trying to rip me off and I know it's a pretty good deal. It's nothing like the deal he paid $2,200 for it 3 months ago but I still know I would be buying under "special" circumstances.

If he's only had it for 3 months, and he paid $2200 for it, then how can he have dumped $4300 into it?

Tires and wheels he might have $1600 into them, but where is the rest? A 4" lift kit is like what $400+?

If it's only been 3 months that he's had it and spent that much $$ into it, then he should have receipts showing the dates of purchases after he bought it to prove he dumped that much money into it. If he does have receipts showing that "he" paid for the parts and upgrades, then he shouldn't feel reluctant to show them to you.

I'm not saying he's a liar, but hey, people try to buy low and sell high whenever possible. I just find it hard to imagine someone spending $4300 on a rig in 3 months without any proof.

If you want it, tell him that you can come up with $5k and see what he says.

I like the idea of saying all you can come up with now is $5,000 or ???

This is a hard situation for sure.....especially since I just went through the exact same thing. I had dreams of fixing mine up too, and had a $10k budget. I though, no problem, fix all the rust, nice paint job, fix up the interior, etc. After paying $3500 for a rig with 300k on it, I am now at $11k.....and no paint job or rust repair yet! But it does run very solid, great brakes, and the interior looks almost new.

But on the other hand, now that you have found it, it would be hard to let it go. I know I definitely would have a VERY hard time walking away after looking for so long.

Finally, there is an emotional connection that's hard to put dollars on. I don't think he is being out of line.....he really has no reason to sell. At least he is even considering it.

I think you are doing the right thing, he knows you WANT it and he wants to get what ever he thinks he can out of you.
If you plan on rebuilding it, just find a clean truck for about half of that and build it the way you want.
If that truck still had good paint, I would say yeah go ahead buy it. But it will need a good 2-3k in paint.

Seems worth it to me. It's a nice clean solid truck that's been cared for... and you can't put a price on memories. I don't care if you build one EXACTLY like it, it's just not the same feeling.

I know if some random person came up to me and wanted to buy one of my trucks (and they aren't for sale), I sure wouldn't throw out a low price. After all, they came to me.

I am just confirming I agree with his decision.
He is the one that has the attachment to it, but he isn't willing to pay for it that much.
I have had some trucks and cars for a very long time, and some that just touched the ground and took off in a few weeks.
They are all trucks after all, and if it needs work, it needs work.
It still needs a bunch of work, even if it's cared for.
He can get a cleaner truck that doesn't need paint for this much and just swap in a 454, it will be cheaper than painting this one, or he can get a much cheaper truck that has no rust, and paint it, and swap in a 454 and probably end up cheaper than getting this one and painting it.
Even if it's in great shape, he still need $2-3K for paint, if not more these days.
:dunno:

Hahaha, I just said I wanted a diesel K5 from out west and within a few hours kennyw had me about 5-10 CL options to look at in the Seattle area.

Are you freakin serious?!!! When I do a search on my local c-list I get maybe 1 or 2 K5s. And neither one is worth looking at.

Rant off.

Same way here in eastern Pa, 3-4 years ago they were everywhere and you literally couldn't give square bodied chevy trucks away. Most went to the scrap yards when scrap got high and gas prices skyrocketed... Now it's rare to even see them at all, as a matter of fact, I have people come over and comment on my blazer all the time. I search craigslist and stuff all the time here and you hardly find anything and it's all either top dollar or complete trash... You guys on the west coast better enjoy it while it lasts.

I second that....that's he way it is down here in the Southeast as well...

That K5 is nice, but I think you should get yours back. Just wait a bit and save up some more $$ where you feel comfortable and can afford it. You know that truck. It looks like the current owner has taken good care of it. Get it back and then you know what you`ve got. That`s a damn sharp lookin K5 and the 454 is unique and really cool :waytogo: so I say go get it!

Fixed it for ya :D, I'm just south of you in north eastern MD , its the same here, people want top dollar for nothing but rust :dunno:

Theres about 6 k5s in this town, 3 dont move, I own 2 of them (one of mine doesnt move) and my 21 y.o cousin owns one and my 8 y/o cousin owns the other one. One of the two that sit looks rusty but origial, the other sits near the college and has a longbed parked next to it and looks rusty and not moving any time soon.

If its the truck you want, deal for it now. Take a loan if your credit can support it. You may never see that truck again. But if you plan to redo everything anyway, maybe a cheaper one is a better idea. Granted, 454 crate motors bring the cost nowadays.

So.... scottishdave. Looks like I'll be in your area around 2 pm tomorrow. :-) I'll post some pics.

$6,500 is just hard to chew considering what I want to do with the Blazer once I get it back. My plans were to paint it and restore it back from inside to out. An initial investment of 6,500 with everything I want to do would put me into the stupid investment range instead of fun investment (I have to tell myself it's an investment).

I hate to be a downer, but these K5's are only losing investments. You will invest a lot of time and money, neither of which you will be able to fully recover.

With that being said, I have 2 (both for more than 10 years) and don't plan to part with either of them in the foreseeable future. :doah:

Sometimes "investments" aren't about money :dunno:

I think that will change though. They aren't making them anymore!

I tell myself and others who ask "why?" that one day they will be as valuable as the muscle cars of the 60's. Which I think is tangible for truck enthusiasts and collectors. Its only a matter of time.

I have tried to stick with 1 toy up to this point and so far it helps alot with the finances... :deal: I also work on my K5 very slowly, thats why I don't have a build thread-because I would have lost everyone's interest a long time ago if I had one. It probably would only have small yearly updates :doah: Doesn't mean I don't still collect parts though

But 10 years or 20 years down the road I know I will have something that not too many people have which will only make it more desirable considering the shape that it's in.
