This is great....and you got one Hell of a story to go with it.
 
I think that will change though. They aren't making them anymore!

I tell myself and others who ask "why?" that one day they will be as valuable as the muscle cars of the 60's. Which I think is tangible for truck enthusiasts and collectors. Its only a matter of time.


You can say "they aren't making them anymore" about ANY product... That's a pretty hollow argument.... Especially for something that's been built in the sort of quantities as the K5. Supply of available trucks will far outpace the market demand forever..... Unlike a '70 Chevelle SS, for example.

Even the 1969 K5 (the rarest of all K5s) will never be a $100,000 vehicle....not even a $50,000 one..... Until maybe inflation makes the dollar so worthless that $50k is no longer considered a lot of money.

To the OP:

If you want your old truck back, you're going to have to pay a premium price.... And you're not buying the best truck at that price, you're paying for "the story" (how you were able to find and buy back your long lost truck). If that has value to you.....do it. If the story isn't worth that much to you, just buy a solid truck and replicate what you used to have. It's still a good story and it will be a little cheaper to get it built.

Try finding a Stretch Armstrong in mint condition....in any condition for that matter...:rolleyes: These trucks will never be super valuable, but they will get harder to find...

and....as long as we have a communist in charge, who knows when a new law will be passed that will cause all of them that remain to be crushed into scrap...I shudder at how many we lost due to cash for clunkers...

I don't think we lost any to CFC.

The rules to qualify we're that the car could only be a certain number of years old... I don't think the super-old stuff was even eligible. IIRC it was a concession that was made to automotive enthusiast groups to prevent true classics from.being crushed.

Stretch Armstrong, eh? I've got a Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots (by Marx 1967) still in the original box..... But it's never going to finance an early retirement. :thumb:

I'm a little too old for Stretch Armstrong.... That was the generation that followed me.

Pretty sure I'm considered generation x, that was probably generation y?

Your comment about ROckemSockem robots illustrates my point perfectly. They were reissued recently to meet a perceived market demand. If K5s even become rare and desirable enough....a company like Dynacorn will reissue the bodies, like they do now for Camaros, Bel-Aires and Mustangs.

I love my K5, but I have no illusions that it's ever going to pay me back for what I dump into it.

I agree they will most likely never be worth $100k, but the same arguement used to be made about 2nd generation camaro's(1970 to 1981), have you tried to buy one of those lately? They were just like our Blazers, rust buckets and you couldn't give them away at one point. They are also an enthusiasts car that only a certain group of people liked. They got abused, left to rot, and scrapped when scrap prices got high, now they are hard to find and even junk ones sell for more than their scrap value... You can already see it happening with our trucks, my truck would easily sell for double what my initial purchase price was 6 years ago. I'm not sayin I'd make money on it, I'd still lose money but I'm the nut whose spent way too much on it. I still stand by the fact that he would be hard pressed to duplicate that Blazer, as it sits now,for the asking price.

Awesome new chapter in this story, I think this should become your build thread! It makes the truck!

Was there more than one? My brother got a Stretch Armstrong, must have been around '90 or so.
