Need pics-Tire Carrier Bumper

I haven't seen Big83Chevy4x4 on here in a while. I know he made at least 1 front bumper, but not for me. Others have asked for the dimensioned drawings of the rear before and he didn't want me to give them out. But seriously, if you can't sketch out a bumper, it's not very likely you can build one.

Wow...so, per Blue85, one shouldn't ask for designs that the brotherhood has come up with...really only reasonable to ask for size/dimension/Part # for any part/standard/assembly other than bumpers.

and i'm also running the stinger BETWEEN the tire and sheetmetal... every one i've seen is sheetmetal/tire/stinger... one of the main reasons for doing this is to alleviate much of the strain it takes to hold that stinger/tire up... .

I was gonna build mine this way too until I realized how much of a pain it's going to be for one guy to get the flat tire back on to the carrier with it under the stinger. It's already getting to be frustrating to pick up and line up the lugs on a hub. I don't want to fight with a 40 with my back leaned over the stinger and try to thread lug nuts on blind.

While I was doing recovery at Stampede back in September, a guy had his set up with a cheap little atv winch. I thought it was a little extravagant for a spare tire, but he didn't have to lift a finger. I could see it's merits there. Hell, Shannon Campbell had three flats already when he got into the giants throne on his first lap.

I think you could build it with a receiver hitch or similar concept so the wheel mounting surface is removable. You mount that piece to the wheel first then just line up a 2" square tube on the stinger and insert a pin or bolt. It's been done before. I'm more curious about the attachment points of this "in front" stinger, since the tailgate opens nearly to the tops of the frame rails. If there was no tailgate, there would be tons of options. For me, the dealbreaker on the stinger is the need to raise and lower the tire every time I want to access the back of the truck. It is simpler and stronger for sure.

I was just trying to relay information that was given to me since somebody asked. None of the vendors give dimensioned drawings out. You might get frame measurements or what-not from another DIYer, but beyond that it's mostly up to your own preferences.

I already have that worked out...

Here is the 10-bolt spindle/hub installed on the bumper:

As you can see, it's tall enough to obscure the back-up light a bit.

I added these rubber pads - one just to cushion closing the carrier and the other as something to clamp the carrier tightly into the main bumper.

This actually works pretty well, but the spare tire can still move a little bit. This movement comes from the end of the bumper twisting slightly. The only fix I can think of is to run a brace from the corner up to the frame somewhere. The existing brace is inboard about a foot from the corner.
