threw all my pictures, i can't find one of the revised latch that Blue85 was talking about. you can somewhat see it in these pics. it doesn't compare to the old latch that was on it, and alot better than some others ive seen.

i have an idea for another one, but i need a blazer or burb here to build it. i was gonna build it on my dads, but his frame is trashed and can't hold hardly any weight.

Here's the one on the Jimmy. Tire Carrier is from DIY4X Thanks Kert. I took a piece of pipe and dropped it through the rear bumper and welded a nut to the bottom and welded the pipe on top and bottom of the bumper. When closing you lift slightly so the weight is on the rear bumper and not carried by the spindle. No rattles and little vibration. I did tighten the nut on the spindle pretty darn tight. The bumper I designed and the shop that built the cage and sliders made it.

I like how you "captured" the spindle. That's part of the reason I've stopped carring a tire on mine; I was worried about the spindle breaking with the weight of a 37" tire.

I thought it looked like something different.

If I ever carry a spare on a tire carrier again, I'm going to do something similar to dontoe's.

As soon as I get my beadlocks setup, I'm hoping to just carry a tube to use in lieu of a spare. I hate having all the weight back there.

Tire carrier

Send me your email and ill send you some pics of the one i built.

Since my member ship to CK5 expired i cant post pics like before, i had a **** load of mod pics up here.

This can be made with some steel and a torch!!

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but that second bumper is mine and it broke yesterday. I ran it for almost 4 years with a 35 and aluminum rim - no problems. I moved to H1 wheels and tires and the tire was always shaking in and out a bit. Long story short: forgot to tighten the bolt before driving and the spindle sheared off in traffic. Fortunately nobody got hurt.

Damm, That could have ended badly! Glad nobody got hurt. Did you almost need a new set of shorts after that?

thanks for bringing it back up...I never got around to trying my design, it went with my old Blazer when i sold it:doah:.

Would love to see pics of the carnage, maybe we could use it to design a better replacement:thumb:

since day one with this forum, i've never liked the swing out style.... definitely doing a swingdown on mine.....

i'm sure there's been plenty with spindles, etc that have held up well, but the swingdown pivot is bulletproof imo as far as a pivot point.. the fact I'll have a 38 up there reinforces that thought to me... easier mounting too...
