Need Your opinion on this k20 I'm lokking at. update!!

:flipoff3:yeh but our tops come off and thats better than some old better drivetrain...:flipoff3:

it must be nice to be able to pull the top off so you can sit in the driveway and go vroom vroom cuz your 10-bolt went boom boom cuz you put 35" on :haha:

I spoke with the owner of the black 87 k30 , and he said he was unaware of the mileage issue. He seamed pretty pissed off about it. I'm still looking, i'm gonna keep this one on the backburner for now.

Yeh i would def. pass on the first one. Seems like it may be a polished turd. Your doing the right thing, take your time and shop around. Youll find the right one before too long, until then ile be

That's comparing apples to oranges. In most areas, a decent K30 will bring as much money as a really nice K5.
So if a nice K30 is worth as much as a nice K5, how is that comparing apples to oranges?

Anyway, I like my K5 because it does what I need it to do - haul my dogs around in the back in comfort. :D

Did he give any info on the 700r4 swap? Curious, cause that isn't a stock trans in a 3/4 ton truck, would be a th400. Hope it works out though!

It was like that when he bought it. The previous owner did the swap so it would be more reliable. I'm gonna look into it. he said it runs and drives great. I'm gonna look at it tonight.

More reliable is questionable, the TH400 is a lot stronger trans. That being said, behind a stock 350, a well built 700r4 that is properly installed (read: properly adjusted TV cable) will be a good way to gain Overdrive. Check to see if a large cooler was installed.

If it shifts correctly, and doesnt' look like a hack job, its probably a good thing. Just be aware of it.

I'm gonna check all that out. Thanks for the heads up. anything else i could look out for.

I think the 1980 model had a mix of front ends. Some were basically 79s with round headlights and some had the square. I thought some of them had some grill features specific to 1980 only.

I had the 350FI/700/4.10/37" combo and wasn't happy. It's much better with 4.88 and it would have worked with 5.13 as well. Just something to keep in mind.

X2 My truck had a 700r4,4.10's, and 38's and it sucked even on flat ground, had to keep it in drive to keep it from shifting up and down all the time.

I'm gonna see how it feels when i test drive it. Its gonna be more of a driver anywhey. I'm probably gonna end up going to a 35 or 36 " tire.

This trucks gonna stay clean. I'm eventually gonna get a BEATER to 4wheel with..

DECENT <> Nice. :doah::thumb: Ok, so I cant read! Don't pick on the dumb guy!

I have a Great Dane and I'm afraid he'll fall over the edge since he is so tall, so I like to keep him leashed to the seat so he's nice and close to me. Besides, the poor thing would freeze to death on a 60 degree day, so there is no leaving him outside in the wind! :)

LOL If they live outside they don't mind a ride in the back of a truck, no animals in the house or truck for me but to each his own. :thumb:

PS: Awesome looking 80 K20, would love to find one in that kinda shape.

Yeah, i would find out which TH700R4 is in there. It does look like an NP208 shifter knob instead of the NP205 that would be the correct transfer case for a 1980.

Also, which EFI? Just a stock 350 TBI? I would still rather have the K30 if the price is similar.
