PIcked up a police impounded '88 blazer. It's got a TBI350, sm465, np208, and the ten bolts... It seemed to run well, but I haven't had a chance to drive it yet. Don't know if I like the Idea of the 208 hanging off the granny low tranny...
I am fairly familiar with this era chevy truck. I have a '90 3/4 ton suburban, had an '89 1/2 ton burb who's running gear is now in one of my toyotas...
I noticed the Blazer did not have the serpentine setup (whatever), and it has an air injection system(bummer). This must have something to do with the fact that it is a manual tranny... can't even remember ever seeing another FI small block chevy with the AIR system.
So I went to one of my service manuals to compare specs between the new Blazer and my other stuff... I knew the '89, and '90 were both rated at 210HP, and 300lbs of torque... but my listing for an '88 5.7 liter with a manual is only 165HP, and 237lbs of torque. W.T.F.? This seems ridiculously low for a fuel injected 350. I don't know of any smog pump that robs 50 horse power.
Do you think this was a missprint? or should I expect the truck to be a real dog?
I had intended to sell one of my Landcruisers to recover the costs of the Blazer. The inline six in the toyota puts out almost as much power as the listing for the blazer's V-8, and the toyota is about 500lbs lighter... I checked, and even the same year chevy 305 puts out more than 165 HP.
Thanks for any input or advice.
