New cage work & shock install

How many feet of tube have you used so far? I have heard mixed reviews about tieing the windshield frame into the cage about it breaking windshields? will the frame tie-ins prevent this? I have no rocker boxes in mine and dont want them, so I am looking hard into tieing in the windshield frame.

I had bought 130 ft and have used about 110 of it. I still need to put in some triangulation behind the front seats and in what would be the rear side window areas. As far as the tying in of the windshield frame I think I am going to remove those flat plates we welded in and fab up something that ties into the windshield frame where the hard top bolts on in the center and brace it that way instead. I think it will be more for keeping the doors aligned while the top is off. That windshield frame pretends to be rigid but it actually seems to flex quite a bit.

Did you ever tie the windshield into the cage?

I 'm in the same boat right now. I'm having a hard time getting the passenger door to line up. I made the mistake of not having a bar across the door opening after I took off my top. To add more problems I built my cage with no doors, top or bar across the door. When I started putting it back together I couldn't even get the door in the opening. Now I have so many shims/blocks that the truck looks crooked. At least the door is the opening.

" I hate how now I need reading glasses to weld "

This is so true, 6 months ago I could weld with out glasses?
Now I spend more time looking for my glasses than I do working!

Nice Cage!

Not to bugger up Chris' thread too much, but it might be easier to just modify the door to fit the opening at this point. If the top fits (assuming you plan to use it again) just cut the door to fit the space you've got and pull all the extra shims out to get the body back to "normal" looking.

:usaflag:

And yet not one word on the clamps! As far as tying cage to windshield I decided to remove those flat bars for now,and as yet not been able to (time wise) fab up something. My doors do open and close just not as good as with the hard top on. At one point I had considered trimming the doors about 1/4 inch in the rear. It looks like all that's needed is to use a grinder with a cut-off wheel and then weld up the seam. I may still do that just ain't decided as of yet.

Nice Cage!

Getting old does have it's disadvantages. I had to stop working yesterday and go buy another set cuz I sat on mine installing the windshield.

That would not be so funny if I hadn't sat on mine a few times as well, but it is hilarious! The clamps are Very Cool, so cool I didn't feel I should post pictures of my clamps (hose clamps) they are stainless steel though.
It is good to see that your using grade 8 bolts!

Hey chris, do you like the shocks mounted on the outer Cs like you have them? If you articulate the axle the shocks dont rub on the tire as it angles in?

Think if i go just a few inches in to get my shocks a little more vertical (limited to 12" so I want them as vertical as possible), that I would have any rubbing problems then? Hoping not..

Don't forget I run 1 3/4" wheel spacers in front. I was originally worried about rubbing the bypass tubes so I just used those spacers from the get go and have never given it a second thought. It did not rub in the beginning but I had that setup that way before I was actually running the truck hard.

hmmmmmm. That is a little predicament... But...I wont have bypass tubes as mine are 2.5" internal bypasses, and I hope to make the piggybacks face towards the engine so should be out of the way.....

So If I space them in a little and the fact mine are smaller in diameter... I think I should be ok.

Also I will be running crossover, so I can move the mounts in where yours had to clear the steering arm.

I really like those front shock mounts on the C's. That was a stroke of genius...imo
