On the way from work on Friday my ABS light/chime started to go off. My DD is a 2003 Chevy 2500HD Silverado, usally I don't have any problems with it. But I found out after spending $800 to fix a problem, GM has EIGHT computers operating in my truck. I took my truck to a trusted mechanic friend of mine the following day and he worked on it all day. At first the diagnostic computer said three sensors are bad in my truck. Mike my mechanic isolated each one and tested each with a volt meter while drining the truck. It seemed like only the front passanger side sensor was bad. Here's rub #1 GM use to sell the ABS sensor separate from the axle hub... no more now you have to buy a whole new hub when the sensor goes south. So $600+ and 3 hours later the truck seems fine and I drive away all not happy but satisfied. An hour later and 30 miles away the ABS goes off again. Sine then it has gone on and off whenever it wants to. Has anyone had this happen or knows how to stop it. I'm really getting pissed at the undependablity of my DD.

UPDATE TO CURRENT TREAD!
Now My DD cruise control "dis-ingages" whenever it feels like it. This started over the 4th of July. I usally use it during my commute so this is now becoming a MAJOR pain! The friggin truck is FOUR years old and it's acting up! I cannot take it to a dealer, I DON"T TRUST THEM! So if I can't find a fix I'm stuck...

Oh by the way whenever I hit potholes the electric doors unlock... NICE!:doah:

I had a 97 GMC Yukon 2 dr 4x4,,,biggest P.O.S on the planet...
I had such high hopes that this would be a vehicle I would keep as long as my 79 K5.

42,000 Dollars,,drove it off the showroom floor. It was my DD.

39K miles- fuel pump ( in the tank ) failed.
41K Intake manifold started leaking antifreeze.
43K steering position sensor failed.
46K valve body in the trans took a dump.
70K rear U-joint failed.
75K some part of the F/I system went bad ( dumping fuel into the intake )
80K master cylinder leaking.

102K Traded in this P.O.S.

I'm a total Chevrolet fan when it comes to the old iron,,,But I will never buy a new Chevy ever again....

For tech info, try "TheDieselPlace".
I have a brand new K2500HD. I'm already aware the steering needs improvement, so I'll be updating with Cognito. The T-case pump will wear through the case, in ~50Kmiles, and I'll get a pump fix kit from MerchantAutomotive.

ETC.:D

My buddy has an '01 1500 with around 150k miles on it and hasnt really had any probs with it. He treats that truck like crap. Other than oil changes he does no preventitive maintenance (even those are not regular). The only probs he has had is a busted rear end and the gas guage doesnt work so well.

I think sometimes you get lucky and get a good one, sometimes you dont.

5 TSB's on ABS on your truck. first one listed is that the EBCM sometimes has a bad ground, Can't get the cut and paste to work or I'd post it for ya. Wouldn't be suprised if your CC problem is related.
A second one is a wierd link between the HVAC system and the abs.
If your mechanic buddy has ALLDATA or Mitchell1 or similar have him check the TSB's.

On a side note this seems to be a problem with late model gm's in general, I've had 8 in my shop in the past 2 months with poor grounds being the problem on everything from fuel pumps to climate control.

Hope this helps.

this is your problem. There was a service bulletin about the ABS sensors. if you never take it to the dealership and didn't get the mailer you are out of luck. They basically check your sensors and if they are bad they replace them free of charge no matter the mileage. post your Vin and I will tell you if you can still have the work done.

the ABS sensors are replaceable. My ABS light was coming on. one of the mechanics at work offered me a sensor he had saved from a hub replacement job. turns out the ABS had alerted me to the fact that my hub was bad. I paid $150 for a hub and did the work myself with hand tools in a gravel driveway.

You paid your mechanic for his time, you can only be mad at your self for that. If you are going to hand your hard earned money over to someone it should be to do something you can't. have someone read the codes or do diagnostic work that you can't but fix it yourself.

If you had brought it to my work they would have charged you $89 for the diagnostics and you could have done the hub job for $150. If the truck qualifies for the service bulletin you would have gotten it all for free.

I have had problems with the whole dexcool issue and am involved in a class action law suit about it. I am not a big fan of any new age rigs there is just to much to go wrong that costs to much to fix.
I love my '86 blazer and dd it over 100,000 mi durring college. My parents both boght '94's one Blazer (the last year they used the emblem on a full size) and a extended cab pu. They both had hour commutes and I trained them on preventaive maintance, and performed a lot for them. They still have the blazer which is all original, besides wear parts, and is still running strong at 240,000+ mi. My dad had his truck for his construction business and sold it at 253,000 mi, to a family friend it still runs though I dont know what the ticker has on it now.
We lived at 5,500 ft elevation near yosemite and they worked in the valley at almost seal level. They climed over 5,000 ft of elevation over there 45 mi commute. We worked those rigs hard lots of 4 low in the winter with chains on all 4. They wont sell the '94 blazer because they know it is the last balzer and all and they would not get much for it but it still runs.

1gchk23u63f213964 is my vin, what do you think about the CC failing, and the door locks engaging when I hit potholes?

bad luck

I think you all just got bad luck with your rigs. For the past 25-30 yrs. my whole family has driven chevys. About 25 cars and trucks total, 20 of them being trucks. Waterpump just went out on the suburban and that was replaced for free. Ony problem was the caddys. BOth dad and grandparents had one and they were lemons. Their co-workers had caddys to and theirs are perfectly fine. I jsut think you go a lemon.

You can't hardly call a Gm product because you had a problem with it. It is not new but even all new vehicles have problems sometimes. I work on a fleet of 40+ ford trucks. You think YOUR truck has problems. I have one F250 that is on its 4th trans at 120K miles and another on it 3rd at 160k. I don't trust the dealer either so I don't blame you there but someone else was right. They are the ones that get the TSB's first and know about common problems. On a side note. If I had diagnosed that you needed a hub and put it on but it didn't fix the problem I would give you your money back. Your friend should stand behind his work.

Somebody on the assembly lines at the GM plant was pissed off because of gas prices. So they had a crappy day on the line. :D :doah:

He does and he wants me to come back in. The problem is I have to find a day I can take from work to have him get to it. At this point with Mike it's about scheduling more that anything else.

you have an extended warranty thats good for another year that would have paid for the entire job. :doah:

The warranty you have is the best money can buy. if you had taken your truck to the dealer, not only would they have fixed the truck for free, they would have given you something to drive until it was fixed.

But you are probably over 75,000 miles which sucks.

You beat me to it gmc4cw. I just ran his vin also and was like wtf?
Unless he's past the 75k mileage limit?

Thanks guys

I'm good, the dealership I bought my truck from closed down two years ago. I haven't been to one since 05/04. My truck has 72500 on it. Thanks for the help. Now all I have to worry about is if the lift voids my warrenty.

your lift will void some parts of your warranty depending on who you take it to. get your truck into any dealership before you put anymore miles on it. extending the warranty you have now is cheap, you might want to look into it.

was your speedo ever recalibrated for the bigger tires. if not that could be giving you the problems with the ABS and the cruise.
