New Crawler Hauler

It would be a lot neater with an upgraded drivetrain, but that would cost money.

I have thought about this.

The same guy that I got this from has a F250 4x4 with a fuel injected 460 and 5 speed manual that he would sell me for $750. It needs a clutch and that's it. Drove it to where it was parked and hasn't moved in two years.

There's not much time for comforts when you're running a 5 speed with a 2 speed rear. Not to mention, most if these trucks are only used for harvest time, mainly October, and November. Don't need much more than a cushy seat, a heater, and radio.

At least that's the way it is around here. I've run a C65 or two, Back in high school.

You don't think it will do 50-55? Of course the one hill going south out of Waterville might be 15 minutes by itself.

Was thinking about this last night.

IF it will do 50-55, how long will it do that on the freeway, with a load, before you have tire issues, bearing issues, brake issues, etc?

Curious regarding your overhaul plans before you hit the open road.

As Ebke is fond of saying as I currently drive my CUCV down and back, wheel it, not knowing if I will break it, "every trip is an adventure". Really, which is the greater risk of not getting home - a truck crawled hard for a weekend or hauling 6000 lbs down and back?

Beyond that, I'll drive it around a bit with my truck on it to see how it does. If it won't do 50 on a flat road it's a moot point anyway.

Not a lot of Freeway between Lincoln Nebraska and Randolph Kansas.

My geography isn't that great :haha:

Mainly focused on 50-55mph.

Yes, both the trail rig and the tow rig are risks, but one has been driving, and the other has been sitting in a field for a few years....

There are only two Interstates in Nebraska. Four hundred and fifty miles of I80 that runs East to West across the state, and two or three miles of I76.

Just referring to things that like to die after sitting a long time, then driving on the road for extended distances.

Seals, tires, etc.

Wouldn't be a big deal around the farm, but out on the open road, with a rig on back, would become apparent pretty quick i'd guess

I see what you are getting at. It has been stored inside. It's common for these trucks to run for a month during harvest and then park inside for the next 11 months.

No, I don't plan to load up and go without some local jaunts first. I'm not THAT adventuresome. That said, It's only 50 years old. What could possibly go wrong?

Run it! :waytogo:

I bought a 1964 Chevy C60 (box truck) with a big block, Clarke 5-speed and a 2-speed rear end....

Scotty helped me do a few select upgrades (HEI, new carb, plug wires, radiator rodded out, etc). We changed the fluids, and put on a fresh set of tires and I drove that damn thing across the country 3 times!!! Worked like a champ......at 55mph and 4MPG. :)

It wasn't the most comfy or quiet vehicle, but it saved me a small fortune in moving fees. :waytogo:

I am with Greg run that sucker man. I have driven so many old crappy trucks and cars over the years to know they are more dependable than most think. If its not great stories usually occur in the adventure.

Finally got this home. Swapped out the other front wheel cylinder and adjusted the rears. Works good now but I have a leaking rear cylinder. I ordered a 3 1/2" socket last week to pull the hub but it's not here yet.

I did get the sides off. Looks better now.

It has more in it but I was on a two lane road I haven't licensed it yet. I also need to do fluids and the oil filter isn't available locally. It's possible the oil is as old as some of the members here. I found what I believe is the last registration for the truck. Last registration was 1989.
