New Crawler Hauler

Awesome. That 8.2 liter Detroit is still available.

Martin

I did some quite a bit of reading about about them after you mentioned it. I'd have to pass even if it was free. I'd do the 460/5 speed from the guys I got it from before that. I can get the whole F250 4x4 for $600 so would probably get whatever I want for the swap for darn near free after parting out and scrapping.

Finally got this home. Swapped out the other front wheel cylinder and adjusted the rears. Works good now but I have a leaking rear cylinder. I ordered a 3 1/2" socket last week to pull the hub but it's not here yet.

I did get the sides off. Looks better now.

Took it for a quick spin after finishing the brakes. Pic for Marty.

It has more in it but I was on a two lane road I haven't licensed it yet. I also need to do fluids and the oil filter isn't available locally. It's possible the oil is as old as some of the members here. I found what I believe is the last registration for the truck. Last registration was 1989.

LOL that thing was registered last when I was 2.

Glad to see you making progress on this thing. I had forgotten about it too seeing the pictures again.

Yeah, it was a long time between "getting" it and picking it up. It was pretty much free. Did some work for a guy on a car in trade. Seems to run really well. Starts easy. Shifts great. Two speed works great. Goes down the road well. Not nearly as bouncy as I thought it would be.

Need to find an oil filter online. NAPA stocks the generator belt which needs to be replaced but I have to measure because there are two lengths for non power steering. And I need to replace the gas tank filler neck hose. It's only 6" long but it is leaky and smells in the cab.

Still need at least one rear wheel cylinder either replaced or rebuilt. It's leaking. I bought a rebuild kit when I bought the front cylinders just in case. It's $7 for a rebuild kit that fits all cylinders vs $70 for a new cylinder and cylinders are top/bottom specific so until I get the hub off I'm on hold. Axle nut socket should be in mid-week.

I'm going to build a bumper-high headache rack for it which will also be useful when I haul round bales of hay. It's only a 16' bed so my truck will just fit on it. That said, if I really don't like hauling the truck on it I'm not out anything other than some parts and will use it around the house.

You took a non blurry picture of a speedo at 70 mph + in an old grain truck. If it was riding that good and driving that smooth to get a pic you win.

Glad to see it moving forward

The 8.2 would be much neater than any 460.

Did a bit of cosmetic work to the old girl. The old paint was dead and I didn't think it would come back but once over it with 3M polishing compound and once with yellow wax and it didn't come out too bad.

Even spruced up the cab a bit. Yep, waxed the dash.

I also built a small headache rack mostly for something for round bales to bump against when loading but will also at least give me something to bump when loading the CUCV without driving through the cab.

We will have to see on tires.

To load I have a 4' high bank that I can back up against to drive on. To unload I will back up to a rock shelf at the orv park and back off. They also have a concrete loading dock but it is pickup height. Would probably work also.

see about converting to a reg more avalible oil filter .

and for that old engine make sure you get the zddp additive .

Well, the filter is available at Advance Auto next day and was the same price. It will only see one oil change a year.

I Should have at least got the Rotella diesel oil. I'll look into the additive.

Just ordered four bottles of ZDDP Plus from Amazon. Thanks for the suggestion.
