Heavier rated trucks probably allow them more leeway with the emissions garbage.
Once upon a time a “light” 3/4 ton had a 7,200pound gvw, “heavy” 3/4 ton was 8,600 pounds. A current 1500 crew cab short box with the max trailering package has a 7,300 pound gvw rating. A current 2500 gvw could be as low as 10,150 to as high as 11,550 pounds depending on the engine, wheel and max trailering option. So yeah the one tons just push it further up the scale.Yeah these sizes used to be pulled by medium duty trucks.
But now they are making the 1 ton trucks into a medium duty
4ft x 8ft sheet of 1" a36 std plate steel is 1,380lbs give or take a few .1” thick iron plates also strapped to the deck of the trailer and pulling it with another dually. Between the weight of the truck, trailer and iron plates they were guessing it was well over 30,000 pounds.

if you don't need all the bells and whistles and bragging rights ...... its cheaper in gm to buy a 5500/6500 truck and have the bigger truck for weight hauling & towing .My Dad's '06 Duramax CCLB 4x4 was $55,000 OTD
His '97 BB CCLB 2x4 dually was in the $40s IIRC
We have surpassed $10k every 10 years.
And they already have the bigger engines and suspensionif you don't need all the bells and whistles and bragging rights ...... its cheaper in gm to buy a 5500/6500 truck and have the bigger truck for weight hauling & towing .
You can keep the bragging rights at that point.if you don't need all the bells and whistles and bragging rights ...... its cheaper in gm to buy a 5500/6500 truck and have the bigger truck for weight hauling & towing .
