New diesel offerings coming.

Yeah these sizes used to be pulled by medium duty trucks.
But now they are making the 1 ton trucks into a medium duty

Once upon a time a “light” 3/4 ton had a 7,200pound gvw, “heavy” 3/4 ton was 8,600 pounds. A current 1500 crew cab short box with the max trailering package has a 7,300 pound gvw rating. A current 2500 gvw could be as low as 10,150 to as high as 11,550 pounds depending on the engine, wheel and max trailering option. So yeah the one tons just push it further up the scale.

For reference a Canyon or Colorado mid-size truck has a 6,250 gvw which puts it in pretty common 1/2 ton territory and in this case done with a 4 cylinder.

Officially I have yet to see anything internally from GM on the existence of the Mega Max. Lots of speculation from the goons at GM authority and TFL truck. Though the TFL guys saw some GM trucks doing testing on I-70 up in the mountains towing some serious loads last summer. Like a gooseneck trailer with a crew cab dually on it with multiple 1” thick iron plates also strapped to the deck of the trailer and pulling it with another dually. Between the weight of the truck, trailer and iron plates they were guessing it was well over 30,000 pounds. Which only fueled their speculation more on the bigger mega max.

GM has new 1500’s coming out late summer /early fall timing and as they have done in past model changes the HD trucks are coming the next year.

There is some logic about going to larger displacement diesels though. A bigger engine isn’t requiring to be worked as hard to generate the power and could in theory keep fuel economy in line vs pushing a smaller engine to get more power with higher boost levels.

At this point until there are official press releases from the likes of GM, ford and ram I’m not believing the stories.

My Dad's '06 Duramax CCLB 4x4 was $55,000 OTD
His '97 BB CCLB 2x4 dually was in the $40s IIRC

We have surpassed $10k every 10 years.

if you don't need all the bells and whistles and bragging rights ...... its cheaper in gm to buy a 5500/6500 truck and have the bigger truck for weight hauling & towing .

And they already have the bigger engines and suspension

You can keep the bragging rights at that point.

Hey Bill, you seen my new 3500HD pick up? Makes all the girls hot.

Hey John, nah I haven’t. Been to busy with your wife. She said she was looking for a man with a truck and I offered up my 6500HD.
