New goodies so I can shift better!!

OK, I'll bait. Is this "compression braking" the same as staying in the selected gear? Selected gear reving up or down?

The only 2 companies that carry a manual VB for the 700 is TCI and Art Carr. The TCI either comes with or without compression breaking. If you do want compression breaking its about $200 more. A Art Carr VB is VERY expensive compared to TCI.

I do not know if this is true for the TH400 and/or 700R4, but you can reprogram the stock TH350 valve body for auto and manual 1-2-3 shifting. Doesn't get any better than that for DD/Offroad.

Yep its called a Trans Scat. Just makes it into a manual but you dont get ther reverse pattern. It costs about $100.

yep I have called them, he said something about the 700VB being more complicated so its harder for him to make them.

that answers that... time for a tranny swap.

I don't know whats available for 700R4, but for TH350 I shift auto, or 1-2, 2-3, 3-2 & 2-1. So thats where the manual comes in primo is on trails.:D

You DONT need to pull the tranny to put it in.

Clarification for people out there considering this, for a 700 there is no need to pull the trans. However for a 400 and 350 the trans must be yanked to install a stiffer spring in the pump for increased line pressure and remove a sealing ring from the center support. :wink1:

Bringing this back to life....

What is the shift quality on a TH400 with a reverse manual valve body?? I'm thinking about the conversion for my TH400, but don't want it to become a brutal-shifting...BANG!...BANG!....BANG! monster every time I change gears on the street.

:dunno:

They can be pretty rough at times, although it is a learning curve. After a while you will learn to drive it smoother.

i had a Cheetah Turbo Action full manual valve body in my th400 when it was in a el camino race car and let me tell you that full line pressure is not a joke. I would never run full line pressure in my truck, i still use my truck as a truck and would never want the harsh shifts. I could only imagine the shifts in low or better yet double low. i do miss the (as soon as the lever touches the next gear, BANG!!) no lag time at all shift into second or third.

I have a 400 with a full reverse manual and let me tell ya there is no in between, you are either in gear or out of gear. 1 to 2 shift is pretty narly but if you let off the gas a little bit it really tames down. And I find the 2 to 3 shift to be pretty hard too but not quite as rough, as such that you dont have to let off the gas without breaking the tires loose.

With the full line pressure it is a pretty direct shift which is why you feel it alot more.
Im sure my poly mounts and traction bar dont make it any smoother either.

If I punch it in 4lo and shift into second it will break all 4 tires loose:D

This sounds like a miserable solution for a dual-purpose rig......

I guess I'm back to my old strategy instead.
