Hey everyone,

So I’m doing a build thread on my ’76 K10. I didn't really document the engine swap that just happened, but I plan on documenting everything else.

I paid $1,500 for the truck a few months back. It has a late 70’s front clip, can’t tell what year the cab is and the bed is an 80’s. The whole front clip and drivers door is primer gray with a bluish hue, the cab, passenger door and bed are black and the tailgate is faded red. All the body mounts have seen their last days, the rubber in the engine mounts and tranny mounts are dry rotted to hell so the truck has a good shake to it, but I really like this truck and how it looks and plan on getting it to where it needs to be.

It has a Dana 44 and GM Corporate 12 bolt, 350, 700R4 and I’m going to find out what kind of transfer case today (I believe it’s a NP208). Don’t know the gear ratio and it currently has 31.5” tires on it.

I drove it for about 2 weeks after purchasing it when the engine started knockin and it has sat in front of my house up until about a week and a half ago, I bought a recently rebuilt 350 from a local CK5 member and with a lot of help from another member have completed the engine swap. Dropping the tranny and transfer case today to change the flexplate which was knocking, picked up a new HD one from NAPA.

I’m going to lift it soon (1-2 months) I wanted to go with ORD, but I’m seeing more versatility with what I’m wanting to do with DIY4X. I’m doing new body mounts, B52’s, new shackles and some pull-n-pay springs upfront (unless someone has some springs that they want to part with), for the rear I’m doing the shackle flip-n- switch, new shackles and pull-n-pay springs. I’ve got some American Racing 15” steel rims, that I want to put some 35x12.5x15 BFG All Terrains on. I’m only looking for 4” of suspension lift to clear the 35’s. Some kind of steering correction and a steering stabilizer is in the plan too and a steering box reinforcement kit.

Everything’s going to happen over time seeing as I don’t have the cash to do it all at once, so stay tuned.

I've only got one photo of the truck itself, but will upload a few more once I get it out of my garage.

I know it's ugly as all hell, but that's how I like it, as long as it's 100% mechanically sound.

I've got some photos of the engine swap, nothing really detailed, just some before and after photos.

Old engine still in:

I know the spark plug wires are a mess, but I'll get the situated soon.

Transfer case was a 208. Unbolted the bell housing and disconnected speedo cable, and tranny cooler lines and maybe a few other things. Put some 5" or so bolts through the bell housing and into the block lifted the tranny, transfer case and driveshafts and moved it all back about 4" as one unit and put the new flexplate on. The old one was on backwards, so that's where the knocking was coming from after the engine swap. Radiator cap wasn't holding pressure and started spraying collant everywhere when I was driving it in the neighborhood.

Got all of that situated, intsalled supercoil. Now all i need is a new throttle cable/ gas pedal and a new power steering pump and I'll be good.

Looking good :thumb:
Nothing like a "newer" engine to make things better. Pretty much the only kind of engine I swap in :D

Yeah, the "newer" engine is pretty nice. I got a new throttle cable and throttle springs, everything is good with that now. Still having problems with the power steering pump, I can't get enough tension on the belt, I think it has something to do with the mounting bracket on the power steering pump, I've kinda got it jimmied up with some washers to space it off the block, it works, but squeals and sucks to turn when I'm not moving very fast.

Picking up the B52's and shackle flip from DIY4X soon (hopefully this week. Now I have some questions... I was thinking about getting some junkyard springs and I still might do that. I know that the Shackle flip will net me 4" of lift with a stock spring, but what about the B52's?

What length shackle should I use front and rear?

If I were to buy some new Tuff Country Srpings from ORD, What "height" springs should I buy, 2", 3" or 4"?

Also, I plan on putting some 35x12.50x15 BFG All Terrains on it once all this is finished, do you think those will clear with no rubbing with a 4" lift?

B52s and stock springs should get you about 4 inches. I can't remember what length shackle I used on mine. I think it was around the 6 inch mark.

How do you like the B52's? Someone told me that they may wear down the springs prematurely.

I like them. I think if you over flex them they'll wear out springs. But I had originally planned for a set up with a lot of flex. So I figured I'd have to change out springs every now and then.

Ok. That's what I figured, I plan on having a spare set of springs on hand. Well, I guess $25 for a pair of pull-n-pay springs will be better for me than a brand new set of Tuff Country's and a lot easier on the pockets.

I'm going to call DIY4X before I order and make sure that I'm getting the correct length shackles and stuff for what I'm trying to do. Do you think that the 4" lift will clear 35x12.5?

Well, I decided to go with ORD for the lift. I'm going for a 4" lift and I think I'm going to get 33's instead of 35's.

My carb is going bad and I'm going to buy a new one. I'm getting an Edelbrock 1406, what do I need to do to make sure that it runs right for the Elevation in Colorado Springs (6,300 Feet Elevation) what size jets, metering rods or anything else that needs to be switched out to run like it's supposed to?

Will a quadrajet bolt up to a edelbrock performer intake without any problems? What are the benefits of a quadrajet over a edelbrock?

Found two local on Craigslist. Do quadrajets only come in 750 CFM? If so, would that be overkill for my 350?

Update

Got a new Edelbrock 1406, called Edelbrock about elevation, got the correct jets and metering rods for Colorado Springs Elevation (6,300 Ft.) Installed and tuned it up the best I could.

Picked up a Quadrajet 750 for $30 off an old Pontiac Engine.

Gonna rebuild the old Edelbrock and Q-Jet one of these days.

Ordered some (a lot) of parts from ORD for the 4" lift.

4" EZ-Ride Front Tuff Country Springs
1/2 Ton and 3/4 Ton Front U-Bolt Kit
Rear Shackle Flip 1/2 and 3/4 Ton
HD Front Shackles w/ Greasable Bushings and Bolts
1.5" Greasable Rear Spring Bushing Kit
Bolt-In Steering Box Brace
4.5" Super Shackles
Tuff Country SX8000 x4 (x2 Front - 61231, x2 Rear - 61301)

Should I go with the Raised steering arm or drop pitman arm with stock steering arm? I've did some research and the latter seems to be the best?

Going with some 33x12.50x15 BFG All Terrains so I don't have to trim the fenders.

Also, got the new steering pump, lines and Jegs bracket, powere steering is installed and smooth as butter now.
