New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

Have you and Kert been making secret plans on how to make really fancy temporary stands? :thumb:

As some of you know, I have been wanting to ditch the 4.10 gears in this truck in favor of 3.73s. Well today I picked this up! Already has 3.73s and a disc brake swap! Picked it up from a member on here for a great price! Thanks again guys!

Also have a deal in the works to get the front gears from another member on here.

I have a 3.73 10 bolt from an 88 K5 you could swap your 3/4 ton ends onto. Let me know if your interested.

Sounds to me like you need bigger tars :haha:

Should be a bit more driveable with 3:73s though :waytogo:

I hear ya. And yes the drivability is what I'm after. Both my trucks have th400s in them. The burb has 3.73s and this truck has 4.10s. The difference is huge. Where the pickup sounds like it's screaming down the highway, the burb is calm. Not to mention the likely mpg difference. I think it will be just right.

My first 4x4 was an 85 K20 auto/410's, it screamed pretty good doing 65. Don't miss it, although I missed them gears later down the road :doah::haha:

There is good and bad to it, thats for sure! In the long run, my goal is to have the 3.73's AND an overdrive trans! I desperately want an 8.1/nv4500. But the reality is i'll probably end up with a 5.3 and 4l60e and have it be fine for the real world that this truck lives in.

Cool beans :waytogo:

I had to push the bed out into the side yard for our Halloween party. Now that it's over I can finally get started in the new bed! So today I enlisted the help of the quad to move the bed back across the yard to the driveway where I could then push it into the garage. Got some body work to do on it then I'm going to take it apart to make the rest of the cleaning /body work easier.

Officially starting on the bed. Going to start a thread for it to gain some extra knowledge and guidance. I'll post the link in here when I do.
