New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

I'm surprised there's not more love for a crew cab around here :dunno:

With a paint job (which the 78 needs also) I think the crew cab would be an even cooler truck than the 78 :deal:

But all that aside, if I don't get it, I still love the 78.

Personally, for me, the proportions are all wrong...I've always liked the short wheelbase trucks. THe big long stretch limo look is just fugly to me...now if you decided to shorten the rear frame and put a short bed on it, I would be on board...

I really really REALLY would want to do a short bed, paint it the colors of your blazer, make it 4wd with a 2" lift, 255 85 16 toyo mts, and stick steel wheels and hob caps. Maybe even beauty rings too!

If it was a dually. Id like it.

SRW crew cabs dont do it for me.

I think if you did this that crew could not be beat. A shorter box and a little lift plus 4x4 that would be a dream truck to a lot of square body fans:waytogo:.

I agree! We'll see if it works out. I know he wants to do the trade, but I think he also wants the money. So it's tough to say which way he will go. Hopefully I hear one way or another soon.

Well, I hate to do it, and I hate to disappoint everyone, but in less than 24hrs, I will be the proud owner of a 77 crew cab.

77c20 396 th400 is all I really know. It's a Silverado and still has the ac stuff tho the belt is off the compressor. I'll surely be getting that operational again.

Has next to no rust except for on the one door that was replaces aperently in the 80s.

I'm told the truck was originally a 350 truck and the old man that used to own it had a 396 rebuilt by a local shop and swapped in. Allegedly it only has around 20k miles on it. Which just looking at the outside seems to jive.

I'll get it home tomorrow night and will be able to report more after that but from the test drive it sure runs and drives great! Short of a sticky right front caliper.

I'm just excited to do to it what I was going to do to the 78. I think it will ooze of coolness and 70s by the time I'm done. Looking ever so very forward to beginning on it! Just need to bust out my house projects first! :doah:

I really think even the neigh sayers will come to love this truck as I begin to work on it.

I'll expect a fuller report later, then. :deal:

Who are these nay-sayers? And why does it matter if they love it? This is your truck. The opinions of random people online really shouldn't have a whole lot of impact on your build. Build the truck you want. The way you want it (You are the one who hasta live with it, after all).

Sheer awesomeness will result. :thumb:

I fully agree! I don't give much of a crap what people will think. I learned a long time ago that trying to please people is a whole lot less satisfying than pleasing yourself and disregarding what others think. That said, it's always nice if someone thinks what you're doing is cool. I feel like I have gained a reputation for lots of talk and not a lot of action around here but I assure everyone, it's just taking me more time than I would like. I'm fully capable of doing cool fun stuff. And this truck will turn out awesome in my book!

You go and get rid of that truck, and guess what I find on the list of Craig.

The ad was up for less than a day, 78 K20 Silverado, 400/TH400. Only rust on the thing was the drivers side cab corner & rocker, and the passenger side front fender around the running board.

If I'd of had $6200, I'd of been on that truck like white on rice.

Anyway, As much as I liked your old truck, Its still your decision to make.
And If I said I didn't love that crewcab too, I'd be lying.

Thanks! The way things seem to be going, the crew will will be worth $10k bolt the time I'm done!

I dont mean to be a hater Mitch. Thats just looking at it the way it is. If you make it better I will change my thoughts.

What are the plans anyways? Its 2wd right?
