New soft top maker

I got to put the soft top to a little bit of a test today.
No leaks. But I did run into droplets of water on the straps that were sewed to the top. I think there are six straps that are sewn in and every one of them looked like this.

But I guess I can trade off a few drops with not having to mess with that heavy top. And overall security from the weather when I'm out and about...
I didn't buy it expecting to be completely waterproof so a few drops on the straps isn't bad for me...
But please note that there were no other leaks anywhere else on this thing...
And it rained HARD for about 30 minutes.

Good to know. The water probably came through where the straps are stitched to the top. You could scotch-guard the stitches from the outside and it would probably fix it. That is what we always used to do with camping tents that leaked at the stitching.

I forgot about the "SEAMSURE" seam sealer that they included with the soft top. So I'm sure that will help, maybe even get rid of the problem. I forgot about it and haven't applied it yet...

I think I got it for $800 shipped, IIRC.
They have a screen you can get to take the place of the back window, which is like an extra $50. I didn't get it, don't know if I will or not. But I was skeptical about spending that much money, but it's worth it to me...
My son loves it as much as I do, but he complained about the sun so much (from sitting in the back), now I just roll with the sides rolled up and have the protection from the sun. And it's nice for when I wanna take it out and it's cloudy outside. Before I couldn't even think about taking it out if it was cloudy, but it was definitely worth the money to me.

Can I see daylight through the back corner? I know that a top is never perfectly sealed and it seems like the design would shed rain fine, but I'm wondering about road grime kicked up by the tires. A K5 has a pretty strong vacuum behind it when driving.

Scraping on the garage door might just be the rear springs riding higher.

That is daylight back in the corner, but that's really my fault. Like I said, they make everything adjustable. I just haven't gotten around to tweaking it yet.
And they include a velcro strip you can use for your tailgate to help keep everything in place a little better. But I haven't decided if I wanna stick anything to my tailgate yet.

Well here's my review, I'm gonna make it short because I hate typing;)
The top is great until you get to the tailgate, it aint ever gonna seal the way they have it ever. But I can make it work by using the alumn. piece of pipe as a shower curtain and just install snaps in my tailgate and the fabric :D

Edit; the whole pipe idea is a bad design but the rest of it is brialliant.

Slip the aluminum tube out, put in a strip (or strips) of magnets in the pocket.

Drilling not required.

Later,

Buddy

Agreed with the pipe not being the best part of the top. Other than that, it's pretty sweet.

Just wondering if anyone knows who owns the black 1st gen there and if they'd take a kidney, arm, lung, and/or testicle in trade for it?

Did anyone order the 1st or 2nd gen styles yet I'm curious?

I ordered a second gen with the optional header bar so I only need to drill 5 holes instead of 17. It should be arriving this week and I hope to have it on by next weekend.

I want pictures and a honest opinion of your thoughts, soon:D
