New Soft Tops for 1st Gen.

i can tell u one thing ppl are not goin to be excited about putting that many holes into their body. would be cool if there was a bracket up there that bolted to where the hard top did.
 
I agree and I think your 2nd Gen is a different story as the windshield line is much different. Softopper is going to produce a top for the 2nd Gen soon so you may want to contact them and express your concerns.
 
the previous owner of mine installed a bestop on it so there is already holes going across my windshield line that im not too thrilled about. but my truck isnt rust free by any means but its in great condition considering where i live.
 
Looks good for a first run. Would like to see them refine the design to include minimal holes in the body.
 
I just spoke with the other owner Bob, and he told me they are working with their metal fabricator to come up with another solution to eliminate the drilling. He also said they are only suppling Black right now because they need 65" goods to not have a seam across the top. They will look into getting the same quality material in different colors. He did mention Khaki but he wasn't sure what color it really represented, gray or more green and not sand.
 
I asked about this cross bar and if it had a quick release and it was said it does. I don't think they care what you do with it. I also asked if it fit in the back of the bed and I don't think it does and you will have to figure out where to put it.
 
I've never been around a soft top. Can you drive highway speeds with sides rolled up?
 
Well, I couldn't answer this question because I have never had this opportunity, but something tells me it wouldn't be a good idea as the rolled up side panels would become stressed and it would most likely cause the top to fatigue and shorten its life expectancy or worse it would rip it apart.
 
i roll up my sides on my bestop and drive 60 around town with no issues. doesnt really flap or do anything different then when their down its just like having the windows down.
 
I've driven with my sides and back off and the only problem I had is that the back window portion sometimes comes loose if there's a lot of cross wind. The STC top only has a small section in the back to keep it held down so the top would fold on me when I didn't also have the back window zipped in. At that point, you might as well just fold the thing down.

But with the sides and back on, I've driven 80mph+ with no issues.
 
That top does look nice, but here is the results of all those holes in the windshield frame. I suppose if I had sealed them or something maybe it would not of been so tragic. There were also other factors that caused this as these windshield frames are not sealed all that great in the first place but is seemed to become very rapid after I installed all those snaps.

These pictures speak for them selves. I will make another call to Softopper next week so they see why drilling isn't the proper installation.

Yes "the sue me state" it is.
 
i would think if you didnt seal the holes then water would just get in there with no-where to go and would not take long to start doing damage. I think if the holes are sealed then there shouldnt be a problem like this.
