Newbie 52-56 swap

So if i were to go with the 56-56 swap i just need a B52 kit and a flip shackel kit rather than moving the rear shackle point up front for the 52s. I know i need longer brake lines etc. I thought i have seen guy with 52 and stock front shackle mounts.
The rear shackle flip is for the rer springs. If you run a 52" spring in the front you WILL HAVE to MOVE your front rear hanger forward. If you run a 56" spring in the front (and use DIY front rear hanger) you WILL NOT have to move your front rear hanger at all. You will just have to make the hole larger to accomodate to larger aftermarket front rear hanger.

You dont have to buy the larger aftermarket front rear hanger though. You CAN use your stock front rear hanger and just leave it in the stock location if you run 56" springs.

So i think i am leaning into doing the 56-56 swap just need to figure out what size of shackles will give me what size of lift
Thanks for all the help guys

Couple questions about the 56-56 swap do the bolt right up to a Dana 60 and 14FF? Also the front shackle angles will be fine with those longer leafs? I hate to be a pain in the ass but i have been searching this ideas for a while now (52s). And i have to get my truck together.

You are going to need 6" rear shackles. I would recommend cross tied shackles from DIY4x.com. You will need 7.25" shackles up front more than likely. They bolt right up to a 60 or 14 bolt. I would also go with a 9/16 shackle bolt also available at DIY4X.

sweet no i need to find two set of 56s. I am know that I will still need a front drive shaft will my rear shaft work.

If you want, you can leave the upper shackle mount alone in the front. With 52" the tire will hit the firewall and long shackles will hit or have a bad angle. Depends on where the spring hanger is put. When you move the upper shackle mount forward, you correct both problems with 52".

The 56" springs move the axle forward and have so much length from rear eye to center pin that the stock upper shackle mount stays put. Hopefully that helps.

The problem with the high steer is all about axle placement. If you move your axle forward, you must move the steering box forward. Otherwise the drag link and the tie rod don't stay away from each other. Moving your steering box forward can be a challenge, DOE. If the frame has already been broke, than all of that will have to be properly repaired and gusseted.

With 52" springs in the front of my truggy. The axle would hang on 14" shocks that were set to only have 4.5" of compression. Here is a couple of pics to show you. the first you can see the 7.5" shackles. The springs have plenty more droop. The second is to show the stuff with the front axle moved forward. Those are 36-14.5 tsl's

mtblazer89.......you said you had swapped the front hangers side to side? why is that?
maybe i should be pmin this to you but ill try here first.....mark

Pertaining to the B52 and the hanger at the rear of the front spring. You do not have to move the rear hanger forward.

One more thing I'd like to add. Two people doing this swap may end up with totally different results. The springs themselves are somewhat of a wild card. Age, use, original spring rate and manufacturer of the will vary form person to person. I don't believe there is one magic bullet for everybody that's gona be perfect every time.

I stand corrected then. It seems like everyone was moving the axle forward so thats where I got that impression from. Carry on.

Now to play devils advocate. I am surprised nobody brought it up yet. This is not a great setup for a rig that sees much street time. I'm not saying you can't do it, but there is a LOT of roll with the 52's.

bingo... I've said it in here as often as I can while trying not to offend...

it really bothers me that EVERY single answer to someones question is do a 52/56 swap... without any consideration to what the end-users use will be...

my truck will see a fair amount of street time, so, nope, I'll run a stock length spring up front thank you...

I am just looking for a good suspension that has good flex, That doesn't require Moving that front shackles and what not. I have been debating on after market springs but i dont have all the weight and i plan on add more stuff to the truck in the future, wont that affect custom leafs?

Will effect any leaf pack as far as that goes.

Comparing to a regular lift spring or ??? Not disagreeing at all, just wanted to know what the comparison was being made too.

Definitely. Everyone wants their rig to perform their way. If you don't need to move the axle forward than go for it. If you don't like it, try something different.
